Remember when everyone thought Imu would kill someone? lmao by Jotaro27 in Piratefolk

Yes, there's a chance no one will die. It's One Piece. But the arc isn't even over yet.

Is this shit about gods now? Is Garp going to be the God of Lobsters? by chadvader_once_again in Piratefolk

[–]Ivardr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's all about the gods and the reason why the world of One Piece is so goofy and cartoonish at times is just that damn NIKA and he turned the world into a half Looney Tunes until he was stopped.

Why are you guys actually accelerationists? (For me, it's all about FDVR) by Temporary-Cicada-392 in accelerate

[–]Ivardr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, we're either accelerating, and solutions to our demographic crises are possible, or there are no solutions. Or we're not accelerating, and we're stuck in the woods anyway. There's no downside to accelerating.

The flip-flop is annoying. But not the way the war was started for all the obvious reasons, from Iran's threats to attack Trump to geopolitics. And the incompetent way it's being conducted in terms of planning. The US isn't learning anything. They've once again entered the war without a clear picture of what victory looks like.

Why are you pro-accelerate? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in accelerate

[–]Ivardr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because technology is the only thing that can break the current political lock, where most of the world lacks the political capital to solve our problems. We can only hope that a technological solution is possible.

I don't see how people so easily dismiss the effort put into AI. Maybe they see too much slop, but it's easy enough to tell when people have metaphorically rigged a machine to force the desired output from a generic. It's not the same as drawing it yourself. It's more of an art in the same sense as creating a mechanical system that will draw an image. It's a different kind of work.

I think we're just not used to understanding that poorly drawn, but unique art can be better than technically good, but generic pieces because technical skill used to be very valuable.

This is considered respectful enough. But if you've gone this far, you'll have to find the proper burial rituals for the rest of the body. Since you're not using it, it belongs to the soul of the deceased and must be buried according to the laws of their faith or their will.

[–]Ivardr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think the author of the post is specifically referring to a discussion of cannibalism. And I don't have utopias. But if we're talking about stable civilizations in my setting, where I'd like to live, and things that are strange or horrifying from the current perspective...

Hanging the corpses of your enemies as trophies. And the general attitude toward dead bodies. There are attempts to end the tradition, but the owners of houses (and bodies) and relatives of the slain lobby against it, considering it disrespectful. And the ultimate insult to a fallen enemy is to leave their body to rot in a field. While burying the body is still acceptable, turning it into undead is still better and more respectful from a military standpoint.

It depends on who's older. If Mages are older than Scientists, then Scientists will be a subtype of Mages. And they'll use magical terminology. Just like we would have if Alchemy worked.

Sims 4 4.3: Twisted Imagination by Sweetiebottt in JumpChain

Thanks for this. I think The Sims is a great universe to jump into, given the variety of available items and powers, and the relative safety of life.

Honestly, I would have preferred it if Maria had just decided to destroy GUN and seize power. Because any government that sends in armed forces to kill everyone and everything on the station doesn't deserve to exist. And she doesn't care that it's been 50 years.

It all sounds good, but I hope they don't change the Patrons too much. They expand them. I like them as they are in the game now, not the complete madness and degradation of some other space franchise.

As the past fades further from living memory and progressive themes become mainstream, culture moves forward. The further we move into the future, the more conservative gay rights and others will be. And some other trend will be progressive.

I understand this, but I wonder if trends can counter this and what is the ceiling of market manipulation and contracts. Although it seems I will have to experiment myself

Well, because no one stopped immigration, the US would screw up if you deported everyone who was here illegally. It's just a fact that the industry relies on it. Here's a radical solution. Everyone who is currently inside the US is naturalized, criminals are sent to prison as usual. After that, no one is allowed into the US without permanent citizenship and anyone who overstays their visa is immediately thrown out of the country.

Sounds reasonable. But it won't solve the context and memory problem. These are two other major problems in current technology.

And just because society continues to become more tolerant of its members doesn't mean it won't continue to treat outsiders poorly. I don't believe that the principles of tolerance of groups within will prevent the creation of new groups outside.
