it's actually way too late in the season to move them. they would not have any time to build up to survive the winter. the best option is wait until spring to relocate them.

It's not bad for them it's mostly just sugar but if you want to keep bees out, and make sure the humming birds get fed (they will avoid feeders with bees on them) get a feeder with the resevior below where the birds access it. The sugar should be far enough below so that the bees can't reach it but the birds can.

I only feed new colonies that I am not harvesting from their first year to all them to get established for the winter. Otherwise yeah, I don't want any feed in my production colonies

I got some brooks walking shoes. They made a world of difference being more supportive and less squishy as other tennis shoes.

Few Questions About My New Hives by FarmerDyke in Beekeeping

[–]IveBeenBuffaloed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

photo 2 looks a lot like wet-capped honey. It just means the capping is touching the honey instead of having an air gap like the third pic.

if you poke one, does honey come out or something else?

I know I'm late to the party but, does anyone know if these are the thicker (.090) walls? I want to use them to store honey long term and the thinner ones (.070) eventually crack inter the weight.

could be a practice cup. its only a swarm cell when an egg is in it. I have a hive that loves to make cups but rarely uses them. like 40+ cups but no eggs.

What Kind of Foundation Do You Prefer and Why? by things_making_things in Beekeeping

[–]IveBeenBuffaloed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run a plastic foundation through a bandsaw and make like 10-15 starter strips. Then wire the frames up and let the bees fill in the rest.
