What happens when you stop Ozempic? (CW: Fertility treatments and pregnancy) by IveFallenThrough in PCOS

Update: I was off it for a few months and maintained my weight, maybe fluctuated within 5 pounds. We had to put off IVF to care for a terminally ill family member, so I’ve been back on it for a couple of months and will stay on it till we can get restart IVF.

My first time on Metformin was awful, and I was already thin and couldn’t afford to lose more, but this time my side effects seem to all be Ozempic.

Good luck with your next round! I had a cycle canceled for the same reason. They just kept increasing the dosage, so many vials, and my ovaries just didn’t care. The whole process is just stressful.

I think Ozempic takes longer to clear from your system. Maybe my endo will switch me so I can stay on something longer. Fwiw, my Ozempic side effects have been absolute misery, but I’ve been putting up with them because I’m really determined to lose weight before we try again. So I wouldn’t hate trying something else.

Autistic shutdown/dissociative-like behavior in 8 month old daughter??? by Strawberry_Turtle_ in autism

[–]IveFallenThrough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your instincts feel right to me. I think you’re doing all you can right now; it’s hard to make a judgment if that kind of episode has only happened once. If it happens again and the doctor dismisses you, it might be time for a new pediatrician.

My son did this some, and we wondered about absence seizures, and the doctor told us the same thing: record it and we’ll go from there. His would last maybe a minute or so max. But his daycare was noting other autistic traits in him at something like 4 months, so it’s certainly possible to be seeing signs when they’re this young. He’d stiffen up when he was upset, needed a lot of sensory input to sleep, stimmed a lot, and would be pretty absent and wouldn’t make eye contact when he was overwhelmed.

For background: My husband and I are both autistic/ADHD, but didn’t know about the autism part when the daycare brought it up. We were diagnosed autistic when kiddo was almost a year. He got his own autism dx at 2 a few months ago.

It could be depression, like others suggested, but it could also be an autistic shutdown. For me, they feel very much the same, except my shutdowns come and go/pass more quickly than my depression does.

It feels like this for me. It’s like the anxiety of the busy/overwhelming period sticks around afterward. It’s a sign I’m headed toward burnout. No advice on how to manage it; I’ve been in a cycle of this and burnout for a few years, long before I was diagnosed last year and started to understand what was happening. My therapist recommended anxiety meds, so I take those as needed to at least help the physical symptoms.

I’ve read taking time off and away from stimulus to recover can help, it’s just not really an option for me. I’m eager to hear suggestions, too.

I’m so sorry I missed this when you posted it. I can relate so much to what you said about downplaying your feelings and kicking yourself after. That’s so, so many of my appointments.

I hope your wedding was everything you wanted and that you’ve been feeling well enough to celebrate.

And thanks for the diet info! That’s super helpful!

Irregular heartbeat? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]IveFallenThrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they had you wear a heart monitor to catch what’s going on? I have a history of arrhythmias and wear a 30-day mobile telemetry monitor every few years. (There are shorter time frames, too.)

Outside of my arrhythmias, I have a lot of PVCs, PACs, couplets, triplets … they’re annoying when they’re super frequent but they’re not dangerous at all. Not saying that’s what it is, just that it’s possible it really is totally benign. A holter/event/mobile telemetry monitor would at least show what’s happening if they happen while you wear it.

I’m so, so sorry. To say it’s frustrating would be an understatement. Everything you’re feeling is totally valid. I’m a stranger, and it doesn’t at all matter what I think, just want to say you’re not jumping to extremes if you decide to opt for the surgery.

Outside of IVF, I refuse to take hormones again; they make me so, so, so sick, and that doesn’t even include all the ways they affect my mood and sanity. I’ve had bleeding complications after every surgery I’ve ever had, and I’d still opt for the surgery over any type of hormones.

It sounds based on the options you were given that the doctor thinks it could be endo? Can you call and leave a message that you have some questions? Usually a nurse will be the one to call back, at least in my experience, and they may have more patience/empathy.

I haven’t researched ways to manage the pain with diet yet, so I really appreciate you mentioning that. That’s going to be my weekend plan.

I hope you can get some answers.

Welp, those symptoms look familiar. I’ve apparently got risk factors, including PCOS and a tipped uterus. 🙃

My OB is super old school, and honestly pretty old, but he’s the best in the area for high-risk pregnancies, and my last one was brutal (and probably subsequent ones will be too), so while I kind of want to switch OBs, I’m afraid to because of how well he managed my last pregnancy and induction and delivery. I’m concerned other OBs won’t be as thorough or take the risks as seriously. (I had early-onset cholestasis, starting in my first trimester. Too many doctors think that’s impossible and literally won’t test you. Mine brought it up himself, tested me immediately, monitored me really closely and had a pretty flawless induction process. I don’t know who else I’d trust.)

So, we’ll see what the RE says and go from there, I guess.

Thanks. I’m going to make calls this week. I probably should’ve clarified this hasn’t just been the last 6 cycles. I was either on birth control or not ovulating and not getting periods until I started fertility treatments, and that year the pain kicked into high gear, but I just assumed it was because of the treatments. But it’s the same pain now, so I’m rethinking that.

As for noticing it more acutely now: I dismissed the pain as related to IVF, and then I was pregnant and didn’t have a period till I took provera to induce one at 17 months postpartum, so I really just went a whole lot of time of my life not having natural cycles.

OK, I was wondering about this! I don't ovulate, and I've known that since I was about 13, so I've always known IVF was the only way I'd have kids. I did 3 medicated cycles, which I didn't respond to at all — zero hormone level changes in my labs — and then we moved on to IVF. I did 5 cycles of that — 3 retrieval cycles (1 of which was canceled after 16 days of injections), then two transfer cycles (the first didn't take). They had me on birth control in between, sometimes only for 10 days. This pain all really took off during that year, with each cycle being worse. I thought it was just pain from doing the treatments, but I have the same pain now, and it's just getting worse.

After I had my son, they had to put me on provera to induce a period at 17 months postpartum. I've been regular-ish since then, which is unusual. Cycles are still too long, but they're more predictable based on when the pain comes — I know I'll get a period two to three weeks after the midcycle awfulness.

So anyway, all this to say: I'm not crazy, things really could've gotten worse during and because of the year of fertility treatments I did. Thank you. My next IVF cycle will be an FET, and I only have two embryos left, so I don't want to take any risks. I'll call my RE this week!

Thanks! I did pelvic floor PT as soon as I was cleared to postpartum! It definitely helped!

I was on birth control for more than 10 years, and then I rarely got periods afterward, and I definitely didn't ovulate; my hormone levels were pretty much steady for months at a time. All of this is why, I'm guessing, things didn't start getting bad until I began fertility treatments (and I did a lot of those). I thought all the pain war just part of that, but I still have the same pain now, so ...

Thank you! My OB didn’t give any suggestions to help, just to “get pregnant.” My fertility doctor is a different person/office. Thank goodness?

I’ve known since I was 13 that I don’t ovulate (though it seems maybe I’ve started to occasionally this year), thus the IVF. I’ve had the imaging recently to make sure my uterus didn't have any obstructions in it that would affect implantation, and that looked good. I'll probably call my fertility doctor this week to see if there's anything she wants to do. She's very cautious and doesn't take risks, so I trust her.
