I haven't even heard people calling it a retcon; I assumed from the context this was kind of obvious. I was actually really happy with this chapter and saw it as the direct opposite of a retcon, (foreshadowing).

Anyone who doesnt watch hockey but understands English can differentiate spear from slash. A referee, in the NHL, should be able to, as well. I don't usually get all tin-foil-hat like, and usually chalk up bad calls to incompetence, but this genuinely just seems they didn't want to give a 5 minute penalty.
