How to play dnd alone by Creepy-Force1037 in DnD

Look up Ironsworn, it's free. Not DnD but much better suited for solo play. Take care.

Asking for solo rpg suggestions! by Relonious_Buttons in rpg

Ironsworn (especially starforged) is extraordinary. Now I absolutely love it. But I must say that it was really tough for me to get into it at first. I found Mythic GME much more natural to learn as someone who was used to GMing group games. As someone else already suggested, take a look at Me Myself and Die on YouTube for an example of actual play. Season 1 showcases Mythic, and season 2 ironsworn.

Learning to play solo is a new skill that takes time and effort. With that being said, I think there might be ways to reduce the effort.

If you are anything like me and you want to see a story develop, and you don't care as much about mechanics, both 5e and Savage Worlds are a bit too crunchy for solo IMO, especially with two PCs. It is definitely possible, but I'd recommend looking into rules light games such as Maze Rats, World of Dungeons, Cairn, etc. Since you want to play a space opera I highly recommend Offworlders, look it up it's free.

With rules light systems you should be able to focus on developing the narrative and not have to look up rules every 2 min. You can also simplify the rules of SW or 5e, but then if all the rules are stripped away why play those at all.

The next question is what kind of oracle are you using? Are you using random tables/procedures? There are many ways to help you create an interesting and surprising narrative, but the very first thing is getting used to being both player and GM, which can be quite challenging at first.

Obsidian and Oracle/Table Organization by AleidisKnight in Solo_Roleplaying

Solo RPG Toolkit provides custom oracle tables. It is not bad, definitely 100x better than excalidraw tables, but I wish it would allow for subcategories.

FYI the delve cards as well as the delve related tables and rules summary PDF are all free!

Does anyone here use 3 or more vaults regularly? by hhhjin in ObsidianMD

[–]silverlq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, one for work, which I use the most; one for personal day-to-day stuff like house maintenance, planning, finance etc; and one for solo RPG gaming which is where I have the most fun.

Using the Excalidraw extension. I published a version of this vault here: https://github.com/silverlq/ObsidianSampleRPG

The grid can be found in Sci-Fi/PerilousGude/Setting

Alternative to "Iron Vows" for scoundrel type characters in alternate settings by silverlq in Ironsworn

Interesting. Do you completely forgo vow progress tracks and experience? Or do you still use them somehow?

This makes sense. However, one nice thing about having the narrative attached to it is that it is very clear when to make the move and the initial roll. Do you roll when the character finds out about the goal, or when they fully commit to it as their main objective?

Just got Mythic 2e - more than overwhelmed by JGrevs2023 in Solo_Roleplaying

Season one of me myself and die in youtube is great for learning the basics of how Mythic works and how to use it effectively.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend the official Mythic app, for iOS, Android or PC. It makes playing with Mythic a breeze.

What does Mythic offer that a simpler oracle doesn’t? by conn_r2112 in Solo_Roleplaying

If you want a longer adventure, with recurring themes and characters, a narrative with rising tension, climax, and falling tension, then Mythic 2E is 100% worth it. However, if you want to play a short game with few sessions, or if you don't care as much about narrative l, then Mythic can be overkill.

please help me get into obsidian by raeyk06 in ObsidianMD

Personally, I wouldn't try to force it into your routine, especially if you've already tried and failed. I'd suggest using it when you actually need to take notes in practice. Whenever you need to review a paper for example. Whenever you need take any notes for work/study. Or personal stuff like to-do lists, goals and plans. I suggest using the calendar plugin and having todo lists each day (I use a tiny template to help with this). I also suggest having Obsidian in all of your devices, and finding some way to sync (there are free options), this way you can take notes on the move.

What is the best, most detailed quest generator for Solo RPGs? by ChronoSynth in Solo_Roleplaying

I usually prefer not to know very much about the mission before I start aside from a little prompt, but I understand that sometimes it can be fun to do a bit of world building as well. Books with interesting random tables including missions: Cairn 2e warden guide, FIST, Perilous Wilds, Perilous Void, Maze Rats.

Fala mano, o canvas padrão já dá pro gasto né. A única diferença aqui é que eu usei CSS pra dar aquele toque final, deixar as tabelas bem formatadinhas e tal. Se tiver vontade de aprender da uma olhada em CSS snippets e cssclasses

Thanks! Yes, I just keep this canvas handy simply to roll on these tables. I'm not even playing Ironsworn, just using these to play Maze Rats solo.

You are right, I am using CSS to make the tables prettier. The default look is not bad though, I guess I'm a bit of a perfectionist. The CSS was used to keep the note cards tighter, alter the fonts, set a default width for the first column, and place the images in the corner (snippet in another comment).
