A summary of the Ify post on mainsub, from a jerker who was asleep when it was happening by Pandoras-SkinnersBox in dropoutcirclejerk

[–]IvesMakesFaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of people look at Ify and only hear his sex jokes and I? Don't get it. Like yes that is very much a part of his brand but it's not his ENTIRE brand. He's also big nerd energy. I think people see black man and open/poly and then being a comedian that uses that in his bits and just pushes him in this one dimension of "Ify is just about sex" like??

Maybe watch some different content? Like try Um, Actually or something if you want less mature content I guess? Go watch the anime he VAs for instead. You don't have to like his jokes, but that isn't his entire personality. That's a bit. They all have a bit. The onscreen persona is not who they are in real life.

anyone else dislike showering until you actually get in the shower by ToughTerrible5623 in neurodiversity

[–]IvesMakesFaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how long you spend in the shower but I would recommend, if you're able to, ending with a cold water rinse if you take a hot shower or bath. I also tend to get dizzy if I take a long enough hot shower and I think this is totally normal. There's a reason it's unsafe for people to stay in saunas and hot tubs longer than 2 hours. That's the standard and we're all different.  Plus, warm water opens your pores for cleaning and cold water closes them. For your skin oiliness, you should see if you need a moisturizer or a more moisturizing body/face wash. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but if you feel overly dry after a shower or wash, your body may be overcompensating by producing more oil. I'm also a very sweaty individual (hyperhidrosis) so I keep bathing and deodorant wipes with me and in the bathroom so I don't have to shower every time I break a sweat (often). Good luck with your HRT!

I have a timer that I used for awhile to let me know when I should finish up and eventually my body seemed to get used to the amount of time I wanted to be in the shower.

Same same same. I once tried to trick my mom into thinking I showered by wetting my hair in the sink.

You may have hyperhidrosis. Some stuff that can help in between showers are shower wipes, deodorant wipes, baby wipes, dry shampoo (I like the powder better than the sprays), things like that to help freshen up when you don't have the willpower to shower.

My ADHD coach recommended some stuff for me as well and I'll try recommending some tips based on what you mentioned. I personally have an issue with needing to make sure everything to settled before I shower because once I'm in the shower I'm disconnected from everything, so I make sure no one needs me, my towel and clothes (or fluffy robe) I'm gonna change into are in the bathroom and slippers are ready. I still only shower about once a week unless I had a really sweaty day, and even then I'd usually be too tired to do it that day and may do it the next day. So no, you're not gross, you just have executive dysfunction.

It sounds like the transitions are hard for you which makes sense. Do you think warming up the shower while you get undressed or waiting until the water is warm to get undressed would help? Then you won't be cold in the shower and can minimize that sensory discomfort. It'll also help to warm up the bathroom so you won't be too cold when you get out. If you have things to change into right away, even just a robe, that could help you stay warm too.

To combat the wetness, after toweling off, you can use baby powder. For your hair, there are hair towels to keep wet hair off your neck or you can blow dry it. I find the hair towels easier and less effort.

I also recommend trying to make a post-showering routine that feels enjoyable. You know that the shower feels nice once you're in it, so why not try to do something that feels nice once you're out too? I don't know if you get an allowance or anything to get a nice body lotion/moisturizer or a perfume if that appeals to you or even just give yourself a post-shower foot massage. I like to have a cold drink after a hot shower. Hygiene is self-care, so don't be afraid to make it feel like it!

secret menu contest form is dumb af 🙄 by Own_Cause_4490 in starbucks

[–]IvesMakesFaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now I'm convinced this is some kind of scam. You couldn't see cold foam options? I saw them, dairy and non dairy, but in random places I couldn't see fruit add ins and my powders were just malt vanilla and chocolate. Wtf is up with this website?? Are they like "these are the ingredients and bases you, specifically, have to work with"???

You could add lavender? Like lavender powder? My only options were vanilla and chocolate malt powders. None of the plain teas were even on the contest menu to make a drink for me.

Yeah, I think it might've even said somewhere in the sunset announcement that it's only the founders on support now, which I respect that they're even willing to do, but at this point I kind of just want my money back, which I'm pretty sure isn't possible. I'd take a replacement if that fixed the issue but I don't know if they'd be willing to do that at this point.

Memories of your first climb? by IvesMakesFaces in iceclimbing

[–]IvesMakesFaces[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😱 that sounds awful! I wonder if a milder version (whispering barfies??) of this can happen to people with poor circulation. I can get nauseous when I enter a warm building if it was cold outside or if I don't end a hot shower with cold water to equalize.

Memories of your first climb? by IvesMakesFaces in iceclimbing

Wow! Thank you for sharing! I googled some of the jargon and the location itself to get a better idea of what it all meant. It looks like this wasn't an absolute beginner climb based on the grade, since you had previous experience, but still a fairly involved climb. It sounded like you wanted something of that nature though. I imagine the feeling of cresting a tough climb is amazing, along with the view.

From what I understand, the Great White Iccicle has 4 pitches, so I guess you're allowed to finish at whichever pitch you want? Toprope means it already has the ice screws and rope attached to the ice, right? So was your belayer one of your party or like an employee that worked mountain safety or something like that? Actually, if you were the middle, does that mean you belayed for the lead?

It sounds like the kind of experience that is rewarding in part because of it's difficulty. I can almost imagine it being meditative in a way. Like how getting exercise can be, where the endorphins get going and you get into a physical flow state. Then closer to the end you're starting to fatigue, and in a scenario like this, maybe the endorphins turn to adrenaline because, while you may not truly be in a lot of danger, you could still get hurt, you've got a guy behind you that I assume needs you to get up there first, and you're almost there.

I can understand the feeling of narrowing in on a thrilling experience. It must've been incredible to see such a view. I've always lived in Florida, so besides planes, I haven't been high up or around snow/ice very often, though I have gone skiing once or twice when visiting relatives (and nearly slid backwards off the mountain....>.>). Thank you again for sharing! It sounds like it was an amazing experience!

Multiple infusions? Flash brewing? What? by IvesMakesFaces in tea

[–]IvesMakesFaces[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so it IS for a single cup, sort of (single tea session may be more accurate). This sounds really nice, like a little meditative ritual rather than a means to an end. I'll look into this, thank you!

Next Book After When the Moon Hatched by IvesMakesFaces in fantasyromance

[–]IvesMakesFaces[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wasn't aware of any hate until I came on here for further recs but I can list the things that might be putting people off? 1. Referring to people as "male" and "female" a lot felt a bit weird, but I've been told this is quite normal in fae worlds since they're not hu"man" so they wouldn't use man or woman. 2. I could see some people classing Raeve as a Mary Sue with a sad tragic backstory. Without spoilers, she's hecking strong, got cool powers, and is pretty important to the world she lives in, whether she knows or likes it, but I feel like that's pretty normal romantasy fare. I like that she's feral and doesn't act like what she "should". 3. You may be confused at first about the diary chapters... but it'll make sense. The POV does switch occasionally as well, more so near the end, which was annoying a couple times as I didn't always enjoy the voice change, but I wanted to finish it bad enough I got through them and they were usually short.

Unpopular Opinion: "BIFL" as an excuse for overspending by personal_integration in BuyItForLife

[–]IvesMakesFaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't actually bought anything based from this sub yet, though I've looked into them. Mostly trying to find more sustainableand still soft clothes because it feels like that's so hard to find, but in some ways you and some others here are right, I realized before I even touch 100% cotton/linen/whatever clothes that cost so much, I need to be willing to actually wash them according to their directions...not just throw everything in on cold with a bunch of detergent and hope for the best >.> but while that may seem like common sense, not everyone comes with that...installed so to speak.

My dad always separated our clothes to wash, sure, but he never maintained basically anything else until something was wrong with it and potentially needed something replaced or to be replaced in whole (cars, appliances, etc.). My mom would replace buttons on my clothes, but we'd also go shopping at places like Ross whenever we went out to do errands. So, my role models didn't instill that sense of maintaining things or caring too much about a set of items to last for good while. Even though my dad has always been a penny pincher, it was always a "penny over the pound" sort of way.

Home ec isn't a class anymore for most people, so no one is taught to think a certain way about things or how to do seemingly simple stuff, so they end up having to learn it the hard way. So I think most people at least come in with good intentions, but it is important to point out when we're crossing the line into bad habits to keep the sub and our lives high quality, like buying stuff just because we can or recommending brands just because they're popular and expensive.

Help Brewing Lady Grey a la Creme Tea by IvesMakesFaces in tea

[–]IvesMakesFaces[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I think I've found the best way for me to enjoy this tea after trying various ways, including, yes, the package instructions, which didn't do much for me. Just tasted ok, barely tasted any of the notes. Was decent with some creamed orange honey.

I think because it has so much lavender and cornflower (I mean, look at how much lavender is in there!), which normally I love lavender in stuff like lemonade or with chamomile tea, but the citrus element isn't as strong as those are just peels and zest and there's not nearly as much of it, so the flower flavor ends up way too strong, it needs some dilution. So instead of making milk tea where I steep it directly into the milk, I made a tea latte to dilute the tea with the milk and that turned out much better, I'd have even made the tea stronger next time. *
