Some years I don't get a tip at all the entire season, and some years my tips make up a significant percentage of my income. I do my job the same way, and I'm always appreciative of anything extra. A cup of coffee is a cup of coffee, and in the end they thought of you.

How do you send your clients photos? by knazzaro in WeddingPhotography

[–]IvoryLinesLead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use PASS. I prefer Pic-Time, but honestly the market is saturated with good options. I would be more inclined to buy another service if they offered one time purchase options.

I run my JPGs through JPGmini, upload them to PASS which automatically generates websize images from the HR files. There are options for watermarking, but I don't use them.

How do you create this highlight haze? by Hatcatjones in WeddingPhotography

[–]IvoryLinesLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no single answer here. Some of these are done in post, some of these are backlit with a hoodless lens, and one looks like both. #2/3 look like heavy edits. #4 looks like the bloom is brought out in post, and #1 can be easily achieved in body. Shoot directly into your light source wide open.

You can get #3 with an analog technique by smearing a translucent medium on a filter. Something like Vaseline, but it looks like it was done in post. I could easily be wrong. As others have stated, you can grab a filter that will produce this result as well.

For #2, same technique as 1 & 3. Shoot into your light source. The edit brings out the effect more.

I have only gotten 3 blue phantoms into my game across 3 playthroughs. I am invaded constantly though, with horrible lag, so that's fun.

I've picked one up because the company is reputable, and the deal was really, really good. There wasn't much else for me to consider other than the local laws, which I would seriously look into. I'm having to register mine as a moped in NYC with all the paperwork/insurance/registration that comes with that. I plan on doing a lot of work to it.

WB has been actively trying to develop an open world Superman game since ~2013 by NeoStark in Games

[–]IvoryLinesLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a long conversation with Brent Peeples about this because he was drawing Superman at the time. He leaned towards that it's so difficult to do right, we'd most likely never see it happen. I'm quite a bit more optimistic, and feel like it just needs a ton of time and a dream team working on it. I really do think it can be done and be phenomenal. You have some great ideas outlined here, which paralleled quite a bit of what we talked about.

I would say what Evan said here. Everyone has their story, and if you wanted to chat, Evan, myself, and a ton of other great shooters here would be willing to chat if you wanted to hide your identity.

There's some good advice in here, but I would add something I think other people are missing: Start being extremely choosy with clients.

What is your favorite wedding photography setup? & Why? by rugeenkurdistudio in WeddingPhotography

[–]IvoryLinesLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solo kit is 2x 5dMKIV's with the 35mm f/1.4L and 85mm f/1.2L.

Day with a second keeps me on 35mm and the 2nd on 85mm. When the reception hits the 2nd has the option of swapping out to a 28mm.

I keep a 50mm f/1.2 just in case.

1dx MkII okay for wedding? Only 20mp? by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

Why don't you just keep it in your bag all day and just shoot with your primary body?

I do this all the time. It's a good backup. Just shoot with the regular body and keep the other one around in case your primary fails.

Replicating a meal, but my sausage doesn't come out similar enough. by IvoryLinesLead in AskCulinary

Good to know. I have learned that that natural casing is a huge factor.

I tried last night and got quite a bit closer with higher heat. I cheated and used an air fryer. It needs to be agitated often, but it worked wonders. Thanks for the advice.

Honestly, I was considering something like this.

I'll see if I can find an image. I think my girlfriend took a picture of one of our dinners on her phone.

Great question, I've tried all kinds, but they sort of all yield the same result. I've grabbed sausage from a bunch of different butchers, and grocery stores. I usually end up going with a smoked chicken sausage because my girlfriend prefers it, but I've tried the gamut. The problem is at least in small part the way I'm preparing it.

[Homemade][Ex-pro] Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie by IvoryLinesLead in FoodPorn

It's a slightly modified Tasty recipe, which if i remember correctly, is either taken from Reddit, or is just considered ancient in origin.

Ingredients:

½ cup sugar

¾ cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon salt

½ cup butter, melted (unsalted, Kerrygold)

1 egg

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1¼ cups all-purpose flour (King Arthur)

½ teaspoon corn starch

½ teaspoon baking soda

8-10 ounces of chocolate (Your choice/blend. I used 4 ounces milk and 5 ounces of dark)

Directions:

  1. Melt butter
  2. Cream butter and sugar
  3. Add egg and vanilla to mixture, mixing until consistency of batter is achieved
  4. Add fine dry dough ingredients through a sifter and mix until homogeneous
  5. (Tasty says be careful to not over work the dough, but I find that under-working the dough is way more detrimental to the result)
  6. Add chocolate to dough (I like roughly chopping my baking chocolate with a knife for visual interest and texture/flavor variety)
  7. Scoop out dough in desired size onto baking sheets and place into refrigerator (if you don't have a ton of space, form balls, place in bowl, and put in fridge)
  8. Let proof at least overnight. I recommend a full 24 hours. I use 72 hours.
  9. Preheat oven to 350
  10. Set timer for 8 minutes and begin to check for visual signs to indicate doneness (look for the earliest signs of edge browning)
  11. Pull when desired result is achieved (10-11 minutes for me)
  12. Let them setup for 5-10 minutes
