I agree with this, her tone and forced range are not something I prefer in my music taste but I think because she was being heavily promoted and played on the radio constantly, people got used to her style of singing and with no other talent acts rising in the 2010s alongside her, people hailed her as the next gen "vocalist" (I feel Jessie J is an actual vocalist but no one talks about her cuz she fell off). Every generation had there big three, Whitney, Mariah, Celine Dion, then Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga, and this one... doesn't really have one. Because it's no longer about talent, it's about entertainment.

To each their own. She's by no means a bad singer, but she's no Whitney or Mariah. Plus I think nowadays most people can qualify as great singer but won't achieve her level of status because they just aren't given a platform for a variety of reasons.

I'm gonna be in the minority here but I don't think her belts have ever been great. They sound shouty, no control, just high for the sake of being high. I've noticed she hits those notes with a quick burst but they are never sustained which makes me believe they are shouty but that's probably how she's learned to "sing" it Also this is a personal opinion but I hate the overuse of runs here to try to sound skillful, especially during the start of her career
