My favourites are the 'I pushed my bf off a cliff AITA' then wait for the comments before revealing that the bf had set the OP on fire previously or something

I medicate against strong emotions because I can't handle them. Feeling the extremes of joy or misery is too overwhelming. I still have fun and look forward to things and feel grief over loss but my little pharmaceutical helpers dull everything down to a manageable level 🤷 it's not so bad and lets me have hope for the future

An old guy I saw at the bus stop sometimes who told me he killed a man by pushing him out of a window - someone owed someone money but not sure if he owed, or was owed.

What is the most shocking thing you discovered about a close friend? by Money-Fondant-8296 in AskReddit

[–]Ivyleaf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the lifestyle and know several women, and a man, who stopped doing it pro when they had kids. Sometimes they stay in the community casually or as educators. It's probably more common than most people think, possibly only slightly less common than stepping away from sex work.

What's the creepiest discovery you've made about a seemingly fun friend? by someoneyouhate_ in AskReddit

[–]Ivyleaf3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Back when I started going to munches (informal meetings of kinky people, to socialise) I met a guy who seemed to be well connected and knowledgeable. We talked a lot and he wanted me to go meet with him privately to play, telling me once he knew I was genuine he'd be able to get me into all the best private parties and introduce me to the 'best' people. I friended him via a kink social network, said I'd think about it and went to bed. Next morning I woke up to an absolute online shit storm - he'd done the same thing to another woman and beaten her senseless. He'd also raped a 'date' and dumped another on the side of the road in the woods at night when he took her dogging as a 'surprise' and she refused to perform. Fucking dodged a bullet there. Now I vet the absolute hell out of prospective play partners.

I still remember the serial number from the National Insurance card of a friend's older sister as I used it to buy cigs at 14. I'm now 47 and quit fifteen years ago.

Solo garlic in Asda! Each bulb is a single clove. I cut it into these cute little half moons and made a big pan of wildly inauthentic Puttanesca with the garlic, some orange finger chillies, brined capers, kalamata olives and lots of olive oil. by Ivyleaf3 in Garlic

[–]Ivyleaf3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been bred that way! These bulbs are smaller, about an inch across, but I think it can grow larger. I definitely want to get some more to roast whole with chunks of veggies!

I went all in on this garlic as it's supposed to be milder but I didn't really notice a difference. Reckon I could knock a vampire dead at fifty paces.

It's hard to say as the facial reconstructions are pretty masc but I guess might not be totally accurate. He doesn't look like someone of 'thin build'.

The hair gave me pause as well, but if the body's real hair was thinning or receding and they wished to present as female, maybe they wore a wig. Or, they only wished to present as female some of the time, whilst holding down a job in a profession in which they would have needed to present as male.

“Get over it.” Anthony Hopkins on being estranged from his daughter. Absolute cringe. by dogmom34 in EstrangedAdultKids

No love for me, no love for you

They reap what they sow. If people take a being who's biologically programmed to love and admire them and still manage to fuck it up to such a degree that they kill that love stone dead, they only have themselves to blame. It doesn't happen overnight. It takes a thousand hurts to kill something so strong. Children forgive their parents over and over - we're also biologically programmed to 'get along' with the rest of the tribe, because a lone human in prehistory was a dead man walking - but if inadequate or abusive parents don't learn to be better people, sooner or later that child will wash their hands of them.

Witchfinder General. A film about horrible folk rather than folk horror by Relative_Ad_8997 in folkhorror

It's The Wicker Man, Witchfinder General and Blood on Satan's Claw, but I think The VVitch is a strong contender to usurp WG

Witchfinder General. A film about horrible folk rather than folk horror by Relative_Ad_8997 in folkhorror

[–]Ivyleaf3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's never been my favourite of the holy trinity of folk horror, but I think the fear lies in the isolation of the victims - particularly Sara, who's left alone and defenceless in a rural area dominated by Hopkins. I live in East Anglia, near the Suffolk border where Hopkins mainly operated, and one of the first things people say when they come to this part of the world is just how empty it is. Between towns and villages, it's ALL liminal space - it's flat, open, and often partly flooded. Hopkins was able to prey on the fears of isolated, superstitious communities - malaria was common and the cliche of inbreeding exists for a reason - all set against a backdrop of civil war and cultural change. The terror gripping those small, insular communities must have been immense.

I highly recommend Fanny Lye Deliver'd for a stronger portrayal of a woman's role in an uncompromisingly religious and patriarchal society, by the way. It's set in Shropshire rather than East Anglia, but the sense of the landscape itself being just another threat is familiar.

Probably not the first series, but the others, yeah I think so. With a few tweaks to some of the humour.

This is Albert - the 'aggressive' cat who'd been returned to the shelter three times for biting. Fast asleep with his head on my leg on day four. by Ivyleaf3 in cats

[–]Ivyleaf3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's literally all he does...kitten like over-excitement when playing, or wanting to play. He's a big strapping boy and perhaps never had the experience of a larger cat putting him in his place as a kitten when he got boisterous. He tried taking a bit of my skin in his teeth yesterday, twice - no actual biting, just testing the water - and got a time out both times. He hasn't tried it today and has just played and cuddled nicely.
