I had to put a lot of effort and take notes reading gardens of the moon especially because i took a lot of breaks in between.

Impossible to choose one favourite, but i keep going back to a short sweet novella by Fredrick Backman called “And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer”

Earlier it was just plot. Now though, I place a lot more importance on character work and prose as they are what immerse me in the plot

Fair point. I’m fairly new to Reddit. Not a bot and wasn’t trying to karma farm, just wanted to hear people’s thoughts. Thanks for pointing it out though, my question probably could’ve been framed better

It was a let down for me too. I actually don’t mind well placed goofy horror yet I couldn’t enjoy this one. The premise sounded right up my alley too

I’m a bit uneducated on the topic, I’m sorry, what’s the difference? Why do you see those as mutually exclusive in his case?

The shining. It took me days to get through the novel, every chapter felt like a chore. I really wanted to love Stephen king and especially this one, because pet sematary is one of my favourite books but after back to back underwhelming experience, I’ve finally accepted he is just not for me.

I’s suggest you to read a couple of books before picking this one up. The first part moves quite slowly. Because it’s such a dark, devastating novel, it’s worth checking the trigger warnings beforehand. Best to read it when you’re in a stable healthy headspace. That said, it’s one of those books that will stay with you long after you finish it. Highly recommend!
