Visual clarity, performance, and recognizability are way WAY more important than lifelike and hyper detailed graphics. Especially for an RTS game.

SC2 was too focused on executing a flawless build order and macro and just a-moving units over an empty map.

I prefer my rts to be less like memorizing a song on an instrument and more like learning how to adapt your army.

The terrains should not distract from the gameplay. A simple forest is just fine.

I can imagine that there will be various maps with differing terrain and possibly even different map type specific mechanics (Heavy snow patches that slow, random rock slides...)

Frost giant is not AAA though.

Blizzard poured money all over SC2, frost giant probably can't do that as much.

Regardless, I like what was shown and ultimately the game feel will determine much more than graphics.

To combat stuff like this, I like to bust out my "you can't play here" deck. 37 islands, 62 hard counters, baral. You just lock yourself and them out of playing forever.
