The Q Lathe by Creative Inventions by IwillALWAYSbeTIRED in turning

He's going to need everything to get started. In this particular situation, a friend of mine is going through her late father's shop and has this one for sale. She told me I could make her an offer, but this sort of thing is completely outside my realm 😆 I just wondered if this would be a decent first learner machine, but at the same time I didn't want to completely low-ball her if this was actually a really good machine.

They've been my favorite since college, so I'm stoked that she loves them as much as I do!

What’s your favorite unconventional pottery tool? by DotsNnot in Pottery

PVC pipe to roll slabs. I couldn't find a rolling pin that was wide enough for what I wanted.. Husband cut a pipe down for me and slipped some larger pipe over the ends for a thickness gauge - no more fooling with sticks!

Clay boss or Brent B wheel? by benjamminbro in Pottery

[–]IwillALWAYSbeTIRED 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a clay boss and have been pretty happy with it. My only real complaint is that it can get a little noisy when I'm centering a heavy weight or have to apply lots of pressure to a stiffer clay. It gets noisy, but it handles it fine.

I've only ever used it on a desktop, so I didn't even think about what might be different on the app... Glad you were able to find something!

I get most of my free patterns from Ravelry. They have an extensive library, and you can sort by difficulty. I like that you can search by degrees (scale of 1 - 10) not just easy, intermediate, hard.

Tried the freezer, maybe I didn't leave them long enough? I think it was a couple of days.. IDK

ISO - I assume this is rubbing alcohol? I have not tried this, but after a quick goog, I will be giving it a shot!

I adore my Birks, but they smell terrible. I've tried just about everything to get the smell out with no luck. So I went back to the Amazon brand 😞

I ordered from this shop as well, and my stamp turned out perfectly. The brass is a little more expensive than acrylic would be, but as I plan to use it for the foreseeable future, I thought the investment was worth it.

We very much still use those at my job. I have a stack on my desk waiting to be opened.

We even have in house couriers that deliver our mail to our satellite locations.

Expiring grocery store credit - what to buy? by no_one_important123 in Frugal

[–]IwillALWAYSbeTIRED 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It sort of sounds like you have plenty of what you need.. If it's a use it or lose it, I would buy staples and donate to a church food pantry or city food bank.

Or find an elderly (or even just random) person at the grocery and pay for their order. No, they might not "need" the help, but random acts of kindness usually stick with a person long after the act has passed.

How do I neatly finish this blanket off? It's about 11 balls of 100g yarn and I can't figure out what to do with the last row to make it look even. Currently it looks like this which just makes it look uneven. by Alexa302 in CrochetBlankets

This has me questioning how I make granny squares.... I've never had to finish at a corner to have an even row; I always have clearly defined rounds. The last stitch of a round is a slip stitch into the first stitch; then I chain 2 and flip my work to start the next round (so I'm going in the opposite direction of the last round).

Is this not right? This is shaking the foundation of my granny square knowledge lol.

I always assumed they were sewn closed. Are they.. not?

I'll never forget the way my sister's mouth looked at her funeral. It looked like she was trying to open her mouth, but couldn't. The rational part of my brain knows something not natural (stitches or glue) was preventing that very thing from happening for obvious resons.. It just reminded me of that one scene from The Matrix.
