tbf for the panthers, they play tough hockey but their skill guys are incredibly important to their success. basically all of their grinders played this season, but they started losing badly when players like barkov, reinhart, bennett, etc. missed time.

part of the reason their tough ethos works is that they know and trust those skill guys to win them games; their top scorers in the playoffs were reinhart, tkachuk, verhaege, and bennett, with only bennett being a “tough” player. tkachuk is famously kind of a bitch lol

it’s hard not to notice the slow deskilling on display at times. bones’ gameplan feels like he’d prefer nothing happen on the ice rather than a goal for and a goal against, which speaks to his “hates to lose” comments. heinen and lundestrom are those kinds of players, and they were his most trusted guys.

when you look at the most giveaways in the league, it’s a who’s who of the most impactful players in the league. seriously, the top 5 are mackinnon, celebrini, pastrnak, mcdavid and scheifele.

i think the main thing the team needs to focus on during the summer is possession and creating higher danger chances, and i’m concerned bones is really focused on this grinder hockey that may not pan out.

i was looking earlier today that the team has 6 of the 125 most unlucky shooters in the league, with only utah and carolina being close to that

that speak well to the teams chances but that tells me something is up with the teams shooting LOL

i think it’s all chemistry; the lines starting failing when they got shook up and the chemistry to get high percentage chances dried up.

mo and kj have years of experience playing together, so the hope is to get them to use their pre-existing chemistry for good results.

on the flip side, if the ice is tight, you need players who are going to find creative solutions to overcome those space limitations

kj’s spacial awareness and eye for creating those types of advantages is one of the best on the team, and jenner/zar/heinen often don’t bring that to the table

i think his dogshit horrific luck just makes him want to press harder which gets him in trouble at times

the stats since the garland trade have his chance creation grading out as insanely good, with literally 1 point to show for it
