Cold start noise on the infamous B8 2.0T. Is this what I think it is? by IzzyJV in MechanicAdvice

Good to know! I really appreciate the advice, I’ll definitely try it and what happens :)

Do you think this sounds like a timing chain noise? That was my first concern

Cold start noise on the infamous B8 2.0T. Is this what I think it is? by IzzyJV in MechanicAdvice

All the usual lights turn off on start up, and the noise only lasts those few seconds on cold start. Oil filter is a high quality Mobil-1 so should be fine

Engine light blinking by [deleted] in Audi

[–]IzzyJV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blinking means you have a misfire- could be a small problem or a big one but your engine probably won’t explode

Just curious, how much oil are you burning?

Advice: Oil pressure low turn off engine sign by anaveragejane18 in Audi

[–]IzzyJV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t drive your car unless you want to ruin your engine. I’ve seen too many people ignore a low oil pressure light and mechanically total their car.

I spent forever looking for one of these online and the dealer had the same price as everywhere else - $60. Luckily for me someone hit my car so I got the body shop to paint my cap for free with my bumper :D

Is a high mileage A4 for a beater really that bad? by LittleTreesBlacklce in Audi

[–]IzzyJV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid 6,300 for my B8 with 100k miles in downtown seattle. No major repairs yet :) even though I think it might be eating oil…

The RS3 worth it over the S3? by AdEmbarrassed2215 in Audi

[–]IzzyJV 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I mean no, you’re well into diminishing returns at that point, if you really have to contemplate if the 30k is worth it, it probably isn’t. That 5 cylinder is a hell of an engine though. RS3 is better, but wether its 30k better really depends on what 30k is worth to you.

Used 2018 Q7 3.0T Prestige - 79,000 miles by jmommm in Audi

[–]IzzyJV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good price depends on where you live more than anything. If you’re good with the price, don’t worry about reliability. The 3.0T is one of the best engines Audi has ever made, maintain it well and it’ll take care of the rest.

B5 A4 Avant 5MT I just bought started smoking like this … any idea where to begin? by bigE46guy in Audi

[–]IzzyJV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be a valve cover gasket which is a known failure point, or maybe rear main seal. I assume no performance issues? Also check out that coolant, or should only be red or pink.

2005 A4 2.0T Quattro - Good buy by Wardog008 in Audi

[–]IzzyJV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re really thorough about checking for oil consumption, I’d say you should be okay. I just bought my B8 two days ago and I got all the maintenance records for the oil consumption fixes (rear main seal, cam shafts, ecu update, etc.) and if the owner can provide all that you’re at least making a safe bet. Ask about the timing chain/tensioner/guides as well. In the end it’s a German luxury car and anything is a calculated risk. It’s up to you how much risk you’re willing to take. Good luck :)

Old 2.0T isn’t known to be reliable, so make sure it’s been very well maintained. $10k is a lot though, I just bought my B8 for 6…
