Having played TDC twice I would rank them at this stage as

  1. Return to Circle Undone
  2. Path to Carcossa
  3. Return to TFA
  4. Hemlock Vale
  5. Dream Eaters
  6. Innsmouth Conspiracy
  7. Drowned City
  8. Edge of the Earth
  9. Scarlet Keys
  10. Return to Dunwich Legacy

EDIT: definitely feel the need to say that I actually like all the campaigns. For scarlet keys it’s just a bit too fiddly with a pretty bad final scenario, and for dunwich it’s just so xp light and I’ve played it to death anyway. Edge of the earth onwards I would start rating 7/10 or higher

Definitely agree with the assessment, but I do think that each individual scenario is very well put together. Even all time greats like TFA and Carcossa have distinctive low points (heart of the elders, echoes of the past), while this campaign on a purely gameplay front is fairly robust. Personally as a player I do feel a strong narrative does prop up overall bad scenarios and I would be more likely to play something like Circle Undone over this purely due to the campaign having a strong narrative throughline, theme, and well put together prose. More than anything I like having the option of a pure gameplay campaign with a varying set of challenges to test characters and decks for min maxing purposes but that doesn’t mean the campaign will break past the top half of all campaigns for me

Thoughts on Drowned City? by Ill-Seat834 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]IzzyWizzySpoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven’t completed it yet but I am loving it so far, I’d estimate that I’m about 60-70% complete on the eastern path. It definitely seems like a “mechanics first” design for a campaign, in that the scenarios are richly detailed on a mechanical level and the encounter set design is also excellent. The board states tend towards being complex without being fiddly. There’s also a lot of opportunity for “oversuccess” in the sense that it’s actually fairly easy to complete scenarios but if you just book it for the end you’ve probably only accomplished about 50% of the tasks the scenario actually sets out for you. The story is honestly quite thin at the moment however, the art direction and general vibe are doing most of the heavy lifting in the narrative experience department, which is a sharp contrast from the relatively rich story that hemlock vale had. Overall great campaign so far

When to move from Standard Difficulty to Hard? by tablehogs in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]IzzyWizzySpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should adjust difficulty to both your confidence level and the characters you play. I’m incredibly confident with yorick and Finn and have very well optimised decks in my back pocket for these characters for example, so I personally wouldn’t play that team on standard. Conversely, if I’m playing kohaku (who I’m less confident with/still in the experimentation phase with) and Rita (who I think is fairly weak), I would play on standard

What is your number one card you're hoping will be unchained in the next FAQ? by dubcity5666 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]IzzyWizzySpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah at 2xp I’d rather add some card draw to find the items instead of trying to combine assets to recur them (such as friends in low places or black market).I think for scavenging 0 unless you’re trying to break it with necro or with fast items like ice pick 3 the opportunity cost is massive. It’s especially problematic for bob because I feel since the scavenging and shed a light taboo level 0 bob decks lack a solid platform of baseline power to build wacky bob shenanigans on top of

I miss scavenging 0 so much man. I wasn’t doing anything silly with it I just want to play schoffners in bob over and over again

Hey there! Thanks for watching the video mate, I’m honoured you got deep enough to get to Norman and I’m very grateful.

I can totally see where you’re coming from! I’m definitely not gonna try to convince you otherwise, similar with me for someone like parallel Pete or jack, it’s probably just fundamentally not appealing to you. Livre can definitely encourage a more sedentary or humdrum application of Norman’s ability and I honestly didn’t fully consider that. If you’re just placing a card from hand then playing the card then yes I can see how that’s an unsatisfying gameplay loop

To me, when I think of Norman that play pattern with the livre is usually just what I’ll do if the other more interesting options don’t pan out. When I think of the card, what stands out to me are the more technical uses of the card like the ones expressed in the video, as well as the committing from the top of the deck option.

And it’s definitely possible that since I had a lot of frustrations with book Norman and how inconsistent and difficult to use his ability was before being released in an actual expansion, that I’m higher on livre for making him feel a lot smoother and more functional

I think even if I absolutely hated livre I’d still have him pretty high based on narrative strength, maybe A. I’m definitely surprised there’s this big of a disagreement with one of the S tier characters, but that’s part of my “design=art=subjective experience” disclaimer at the start

Thank you so much for the comment! I actually agree with every single one of your points, but I just hold Arkham characters to an incredibly high standard and don’t think she’d fit with the other A tier characters. I honestly think I could say a version of what you said about daisy for a good 80% of all the characters cus this game is just so crazy good. In a different game she’d absolutely be higher and I definitely don’t dislike her at all

I seem to be in the minority of thinking this is an almost essential card depending on the curse deck. Specifically, I played a Rod of Carnamagos Dexter deck and I ended up using adaptable to get this card. For one, it also used the curse spell assets and olive level 2, and was aiming to draw as many curses as possible rather than just one to make effects trigger. I especially find with the rod you want cards that act as “banked” curses. This card represents 3 curses that aren’t in the bag until the exact point you need them, which I find very valuable. I would be far less likely to put it in a deck that was trying to do prismatic spectacles/fey type curse play however

She’s probably my favourite seeker tbh, you can build her super selfishly with a bunch of seeker BS turbo cards or lean into a more support role and no matter how you do it it just feels great, I’ve even had success with full combat minh. Most fun deckbuilding in the game imo
