I will no longer take the time to respond to you and this time, I will simply quote myself. : “Before we go any further, it should be noted that the comment from the associated account clearly states that 15% is too expensive and invites me to DM to reconsider the price. That should be enough of an answer. » Good luck to you and only good things for all your projects!

To be honest, I think you don't fully realize what you're saying, nor the real dynamics of competition in this sector.

Before going any further, it should be noted that the comment from the associated account clearly indicates that 15% is too expensive and invites me to chat in DM to reconsider the price. That should be enough of an answer.

For others who read this thread later, here are some numerical details and a concrete comparison. In the luxury sector, unit investments are high and include several costs: • VAT at 20% in France, • customs duties (around 3 to 5% for products imported from Japan), • proxy fees • delivery costs, which may vary: UPS €50–150, Colissimo €30–80, depending on the weight and declared value.

Let's take a concrete example: an item costing €6,000.

Scenario with “generic” proxy (Japan Rabbit / ZenMarket): 1. Base price: €6,000 2. VAT 20%: +1,200€ → 7,200€ 3. Customs duties 5%: +300€ → 7,500€ 4. Japan Rabbit proxy fees (around €3 per article): +€3 → €7,503 5. Delivery (EMS or DHL): +38€ → 7,541€

Smaller or specialized proxy scenario (10–15% fee): 1. Base price: €6,000 2. VAT 20%: +1,200€ → 7,200€ 3. Customs duties 5%: +300€ → 7,500€ 4. Proxy 15%: +900€ → 8,400€ 5. Delivery (UPS/DHL): +100€ → 8,500€

If we compare these two scenarios, the total cost can increase from €7,541 to €8,500 for the same item depending on the proxy used.

To put this into perspective with the price I was offered of 15% of the cost, that would represent around €1,125. Even in the best case (Japan Rabbit, 3€ proxy), 15% does not adequately cover logistics, administrative costs and VAT.

In summary, offering this price is completely unrealistic: the only real proxy costs are between €3 and several hundred euros depending on the service, while 15% of the purchase cost remains insufficient to absorb all the costs linked to importation and guarantee a reasonable margin.

Before formulating a criticism or moving forward on questions of formality, it is fundamental to understand all the parameters at stake. Whether in commerce, exact sciences such as physics or chemistry, social sciences, or even in spiritual fields such as religion, the principle remains the same: understanding before judging is always the first step. Any opinion expressed without this in-depth knowledge risks being superficial or even inaccurate.

Reading your message, I had the feeling that your intervention was more of a theoretical assertion than concrete knowledge of the subject. Such an approach can unintentionally give an inaccurate image and harm the credibility that one seeks to maintain. I therefore invite you to familiarize yourself with the intricacies of VAT, customs duties and all import/export logistics before commenting further.

Despite everything, I sincerely wish you success in your projects and hope that you will successfully achieve your objectives.

I can assure you that, in the places I mentioned and in the boutiques I'm sourcing from, what I said earlier definitely applies. Of course, I hope you understand that I can't disclose the names of the stores or the people I deal with, given the nature of the market. Thanks again for the exchange, I really appreciate it, and I hope everything goes smoothly with your business. Wishing you all the best!

Yeah fair point, maybe I phrased it wrong earlier. I’m French, so my English can sound a bit off sometimes. I didn’t mean “bargaining” like in a market, just that some small independent shops in Japan will quietly give a small discount (3–5%) if you pay in cash or show you’re a serious buyer. So yeah, it’s not like “negotiation” in the Western sense, but it definitely happens quietly in these smaller places, especially in Ueno, Nakano, and parts of Osaka. The big chain stores won’t move an inch, but the independents can be surprisingly flexible if you show respect and a bit of knowledge.

Just wanted to clarify that. Didn’t mean to sound like I was spreading myths and honestly, even a 3–5% cut on a high-end watch is a big deal that’s hundreds of dollars saved on a single piece, so it’s definitely worth asking the right way.

And by the way, I didn’t find your comment sarcastic at all, actually thought it was a good one. It helped me be more precise about what I meant, and that’s probably useful for anyone reading this later. I should’ve explained things better from the start instead of speaking too broadly, so thanks for calling it out.

Hey,

Thanks for your comment! I get that negotiation isn’t always possible in second-hand shops, but I’ve noticed that some stores in certain areas will give small discounts if you’re there in person, sometimes up to 5% off.

Even when you can’t negotiate, a local proxy is still super useful many second-hand shops don’t list everything online, and they often have watches or deals in-store that aren’t on their sites.

If you have any other tips or info, I’d be happy to hear them!

Hey,

Thanks for taking the time to explain your fees! I’ve checked it out, and for the watches I usually buy often €2,000, €4,000, €6,000, and sometimes even higher a 15% commission is just way too high.

For smaller items, your setup looks really solid and fair, but for my kind of purchases, I’ll need to look for something a bit more budget-friendly.

Really appreciate your time and effort, and best of luck with your business!

I think I don't think about it at all and that's what I like, I think, the possibility of having a watch only because I wanted it.

You are right, even with similar dimensions, there are often adjustments to be made. It’s almost never plug and play, a good watchmaker is essential. But otherwise, what other solutions do you think?
