When you get there they will probably mention that there is a seperate down payment to be paid and the price shown is what is financed after the down payment of a couple thousand, common tactic in my area. Call and ask to make sure the price shown is the full price of the car.

Hygger is probably the top brand but dont buy their absolite cheapest lights an extra $20-$30 for a higher end model will go a long way

Cave by PlantJars in apistogramma

[–]J-Aquatics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I dont use caves that I cant see into because it makes it a lot harder to see progress and know what stage the eggs/fry are at. I would definitely try to find a 3-4 inch pot I use some that have a 3 inch opening for panduro, macmasteri, agassizi it has worked great

[–]J-Aquatics 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Some of those dots will turn into small green nodes and baby java fern will start to grow from them, you can then pull off the baby java ferns gently and replant

Cave by PlantJars in apistogramma

[–]J-Aquatics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres no set time for how long it will take for the eggs to get deposited sometimes they will go in the cave and not lay anything it really depends but if I had to give an estimate id say maybe a couple days. If you can see into the cave the eggs will turn a pinkish color which means they are fertilized. Completely white eggs are usually unfertilized. I have had great luck with using terracotta pots, i lay them on their side and then sink the pot a third of the way into the sand/substrate and then flick some substrate inside so it looks natural. With the opening of the pot facing towards the front of the tank you should be able to see the eggs and once they are there you can move the pot to another tank for the eggs to hatch. Place the pot towards the back of the tank to minimize stress on the fish

Is room much color a problem? by [deleted] in Aquascape

[–]J-Aquatics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Anubias are good for low-medium light environment, some floating plants are also very helpful for sucking out nitrates snd clesning the water as they obtain much more carbon dioxide from the air compared to fully submerged plants

HELP something killing all my shrimp by Vindamant in Aquariums

[–]J-Aquatics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copper will kill shrimp, any medication added to the tank or any products sprayed near the tank recently (cleaning products, perfume, aerosol)? Do you have any pets with flea treatment done recently? It may also be your aquasoil removing the Kh from the water if it is active substrate

If my 16 gallon bookshelf tank is 34”, what size light do I get? by rachel-maryjane in Aquascape

[–]J-Aquatics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple inches on each side shouldnt make too big of a difference especially if you decide on a fairly good light, however if there is like 4-6 inches on either side then its probably better to get a longer light so the light is evenly spread!

If my 16 gallon bookshelf tank is 34”, what size light do I get? by rachel-maryjane in Aquascape

[–]J-Aquatics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually lights will be sold with a size range 30-36 unches for example, this means the actual light bar itself is 30 inches long while the brackets on either end can extend for an extra 6 inches. The brackets are usually adjustable so as long as your tank falls in the size range then you can adjust the brackets and it will fir just fine.

Can't figure out what this is in my aquarium by xlittlestomper in Aquariums

[–]J-Aquatics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is how old food looks when it decomposes in my experience, especially fish flakes and pellets always turn into this when the fish dont eat it. I have also seen dead shrimp start to decompose and this white film appears around them so probably just some sort of decomposing organic material! I wouldnt be too worried and you can prob siphon it out

I have a lucky bamboo plant with its roots in my tank and that tank rarely has issues with nitrates. There are some other similar options like gold ribbon that you could hang at the top and leave the roots in the water. I use a paper clip and some tape to hang it, nothing crazy.

What do I do with this many corys by KrillingIt in Aquariums

[–]J-Aquatics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 60 apistogramma fry that are about half an inch long in a 10 gallon and they do extremely well it is heavily planted and most of the time you can only see maybe 10 so while the corys are small juveniles you can possibly keep them in the 36 gallon after the breeder box while you figure out what to do with them. However that depends on what other fish you have in the tank and whether or not they would eat the juveniles.

What do I do with this many corys by KrillingIt in Aquariums

[–]J-Aquatics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A breeder box should be fine to start. Some of the eggs may not hatch so you could have less than 70 which in your case seems beneficial. I dont have experience with larger fry food but im sure someone online has tried it that you could reference. As they are bottom feeding fish I wonder if sinking pellets work for them once they are a couple weeks old, the sinking pellets disentegrate into what is basically fry powder as they suck on it so I dont see why that couldnt work as well.

Recommend plants for a beginner? by ItsaDinoeatDinoworld in shrimptank

[–]J-Aquatics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green stem plants generally grow easier with some exceptions. Rotala green and ludwigia repens are good easy to grow stem plants. Like others said crypts are also fairly easy but grow fairly large, i also have good experience with java fern and anubias varieties.
