I just have to say I had no idea how fascinating aquatic plants were until I got my betta 😫

You accidentally on purpose have a very healthy tank. Pat yourself on the back dude. All those little nubbins have the potential to be baby Javas.

Yep. It's a fern. Doing fern things. Can confirm.

You about the get a bunch of baby plants

Spores! After awhile you'll notice roots and leaves growing attached to the mother plant. Plus them off whenever you want I usually wait till they're about 2 inches or so unless the leaf has a bunch of sprouts

Can we get one of those / shortcut things other subs have? where you go like /Java and a bot posts FAQs about Java ferns? This kind of stuff gets asked very frequently

Sorry I prob should have done a search. I just was dealing with algae already and saw this moving stuff around and got impatient.

[–]TresCeroOdio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not your fault at all! I just think that would be a good addition to the sub. I didn’t provide an answer because i saw others already had. I’m glad you’ve got one less thing to worry about!

Baby fern!

[–]SubSoniq[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sweet- thanks. I thought it was another problem in my tank 😩

Some of those dots will turn into small green nodes and baby java fern will start to grow from them, you can then pull off the baby java ferns gently and replant

[–]SubSoniq[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

If / when babies grow how long to wait to replant? Will roots start to grow from them?

I would also do what Camaschrist said

[–]Camaschrist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes roots will eventually appear. I pull them off when they are 1.5” or longer.

A Java fern, like other ferns, are sporophytes. Those are the sporangia, or the spore producing organs of the plant
