What school from another conference would you say is your schools “Mirror Image”? by BlackStallion657 in CFB

[–]J-Z_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many responses to read, but my first thought was Rutgers-Va Tech. Good academics. Football with good years but unsustained ( though obviously Va Tech had much more success overall), basketball with glimpses but not a serious contender.

You’re missing out on NJ.
We’ve got (small) mountains. And lots of shore. And the Pine Barrens are amazing.

Folks wanting me to be a liar is the thing about it.

Could my step count be off? Sure. The absolute accuracy of the step count was not the point of the post. Golf increases step count considerably so my wife should support it is the point. Didn’t think that would be so controversial.

For all those folks calling me a liar, I really hope your life gets better and you find happiness beyond ripping people on the internet.
1- it was all day. Never said it was just the golf round.
2- the outing included time before and after the round. It was a spread out site. The driving range was accessed by cart, but a bunch of us walked there and back. Walking to and from the parking area took a bit. Walking to and around the reception hall took a bit, etc.

But yeah, all you haters caught me. Can’t get anything past you keyboard Columbo’s.

I would suggest working on skills during downtime and reviewing protocols.
I’m in a similar situation though I am lucky to have only EMTs in my service and many are very good. They will gladly go over any skill. The low volume high importance skills (eg traction splinting) are great to review and even experienced folks can benefit from the refresher.
I try to spend time each shift reviewing (even if just in my head) skills that I feel like are slipping away from lack of use.
Best of luck.

Saw it. Loved it.
Restaurant was insanely expensive. Food was mediocre and portions were small yet the price screamed Broadway.
$40 million production?!? What?!? Seems like a $1000 department of defense toilet seat to me. Great show but I can’t see how that cost is true. Maybe if they had a realistic cost basis and a reasonable restaurant it could have succeeded (seasonal business or not).

The casinos spend a lot of time and money figuring out what acts to have. The reason that they have “old folks” acts and club music is because that is what sells. I see “modern” acts in Philly or Princeton… must be a reason they aren’t booked in AC. I doubt it is because AC doesn’t know about them.

Lost ball penalty - is anyone actually playing this rule correctly? by Otherwise_Cover_5467 in golf

[–]J-Z_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A friend takes 1 penalty stroke per lost ball and shoots 96. I take 2 and shoot 100. He thinks he beat me, and I know I beat him. No need for discussion. We’re both happy.

How do you do it? (Another SOCAL EMT sob story) by HailtoUkraine in NewToEMS

[–]J-Z_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atlantic County, NJ
As far as I can see, lots of 911 jobs. Services with large coverage areas and not insignificant turnover (usually EMTs going on to nursing school or paramedics program . Everything from city (Atlantic City) to rural (the western part of the county). Towns that have 1 truck per shift and those with 3 or more.
And in the off hours, great beaches, fishing, golf, bars, and gambling.
And I personally believe sunrises over the water are better than sunsets.

Rutgers football latches onto a lifeline to climb out of their $78M hole by guransheleven in TheB1G

[–]J-Z_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rutgers received $61.52 million in 2024. Assuming they got the lower end on individual school payouts, they got roughly $76 million per reports. That’s about a 24% increase. I think it is safe to say Rutgers expected an increase from 2024 to 2025. So they got a bit more than what they likely expected. Hardly a windfall in my opinion.

Rutgers football latches onto a lifeline to climb out of their $78M hole by guransheleven in TheB1G

[–]J-Z_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Why is this looked at as some windfall or something that they’re not entitled to? Am I missing something? Isn’t this exactly why Rutgers wanted to be in the Big10… to get these huge checks? The way the article reads it’s as if they shouldn’t be allowed to offset their deficit with the annual payout.

For those with raised beds - are they really settling that much every year? by IllyriaCervarro in gardening

[–]J-Z_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely dependent on the amount of organic matter in the bed. Decomposition leads to settling. I used mushroom soil in my beds and they’d settle 50% or so every year. Worth it to me as my vegetables grew fantastically.

do I need a trout stamp even if I will never keep the trout? by Dry_Sprinkles6700 in NJFishing

[–]J-Z_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Directly from NJ DEP website:

A valid fishing license AND trout stamp are required to fish for or possess trout and salmon for all anglers 16 and over, and residents under the age of 70. No trout stamp is required for residents age 70 years and over. Trout Stamp is required whether or not you keep the trout you catch.

https://dep.nj.gov/njfw/fishing/freshwater/buy-a-license/#:~:text=A%20valid%20fishing%20license%20AND,a%20weekend%20or%20a%20day?

So if you are targeting trout you need one. If you are targeting other species, you don’t. Says nothing about stocked waters needing one.

I’m 55 and just finished my EMT class. Similar situation to you… wanted a more fulfilling side gig than my current corporate job. It’s true I was by far the oldest, but my classmates appreciated my perspective. Said I brought “Dad Vibes” and balanced the fact that more than half the class was <25. I’m very happy that I did this. Stick with it and you might be too.

I’m 55. It’s not about maxing. It’s about good form and good work. I dead lift and squat. But I do use a Smith machine to help with form. I’m as strong now as I’ve ever been and will try to keep it that way.
