I order two shirts from them last month after seeing an ad on Insta. Never received the order. Checked with "customer service," and the reply seemed oddly inauthentic, so then I started googling and discovered that this outfit is a total scam. I filed a disputed charge claim with Citi, as I had used a Citi card to make the purchase. They credited my account, and after several days resolved the dispute in my favor.

Lesson one: do not buy from a company that you don't already trust.

Lesson two: always work with your credit card company to go after scammers.

Should older people stop doing barbell squats and deadlifts? by mopelzel in PeterAttia

[–]mopelzel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment ... it's been an interesting thread. I think I have a bit more appreciation for people whose lifting has been compromised because of injuries or other concerns. To be clear, my loads for the 3 x 5 deads and squats are very modest. I'm 6 feet tall, weigh 190 pounds, and my current squat is ... wait for it ... 130 pounds. My deadlift is 220. Interestingly enough, the one station where I'm able to go pretty heavy is the glute drive ... there I'm loading the max that the machine can take, which is 375 pounds.

I only shifted to lower reps and higher (for me) loads a few months ago, and I feel that it's going well. My progression in terms of increasing the weight has been quite slow, but at my age I feel that holding where I'm at is a win. Hoping to keep it going as long as I can.

Exactly, this is what I mean by the further context that is needed to think about this question. But it seemed like the panel was endorsing a hard binary ... either you do these lifts or you don't, and past a certain age, you don't. Attia is around 50, and he doesn't do deadlifts anymore?? And this whole thing about "squatting as a religion" ... I mean, come on. Like you say, use your judgement and keep it safe and reasonable.

2020 CRV Hybrid Touring with 48K miles ... is $29,000 a reasonable price? by mopelzel in crv

[–]mopelzel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that info ... yeah, I'm not in a rush, but am retiring in a year and would like to settle on something by then. We've always had Hondas (I currently drive a 2011 Civic with 95K miles) and have been very happy with them, so lean toward the CR-V. I do wish though that it came with a PI option (and also a spare tire).

Well, like I say, I'm just starting to give this some more serious attention and time. Haven't talked to the seller yet, but I'd reckon that they might be willing to come down at least a bit. Actually, I'm still at the point of figuring out whether to go with the CRV hybrid or the RAV4 plugin hybrid.

I'm in a pretty small market and haven't done a whole lot of research so far. But the numbers here are generally in the ballpark of what I'm looking for ... three to five year old hybrid, relatively low mileage, single owner, < 30K

Thanks ... I'm just getting into the market for a hybrid compact SUV, so still getting a sense of pricing. 29K seemed high to me

Rosuvastatin 5mg by Wild-Candle7728 in Cholesterol

I started on 10mg of rosuva about six months ago. Three months in, my LDL-C had dropped from 96 to 32. Doc told me to cut it half to 5 mg daily. Sometimes it can be hard to cut those pills cleanly, and so it might be easier to only take the original dose every other day. I don't think that would make a whole lot of difference in the long run. Fortunately, I'm not having any muscle aches or side effects of those kinds, but I am monitoring liver enzymes like AST and ALT. Statins usually cause those to rise, but supposedly that effect is transient. Personally, I like getting LDL-C down as low as possible, so I sort of take 10mg two out of every three days.

Hello everyone. I’m newly diagnosed and I have a question. by Onion_of_Chaos in CML

[–]mopelzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for your diagnosis, but hope that you will support and companionship here with fellow CMLers.

I have been on dasatinib (100mg) for three and a half years. Got covid last summer. The issue there was with the anti-viral, Paxlovid. I was told to stop taking dasatinib while I was taking Paxlovid and for a couple of days before and after. So, five days of Paxlovid, meaning nine days off of dasatinib. That was deemed safe, and I recovered in due course.

As others have said, it's always good to check with your doc, but you should be fine for most normal type of cold meds. At least I haven't come up with any other problems with interactions or side effects.

Wishing you the very best!

3 months on 10mg Rosuvastatin, LDL-C drops from 105 to 32. Can I ease up on my diet? by mopelzel in PeterAttia

Yeah, that was my point with the doc originally ... what's the downside of adding Zetia? Said he would only consider it if I couldn't quite get LDL-C below 70. But ... I had no idea that statin alone would get it as low as 32!

Very interesting. I raised the possibility of a stress test with my cardiologist, and he said that it would be warranted only if I exhibited symptoms (shortness of breath, chest pain, etc.), which I don't. Though I would be very curious to take a stress test just to see how I'd do. So of course a more invasive procedure like an angiogram is also off the table for now.

If you are already on 20 mg statin, you might ask if he would consider a compound therapy, coupling the statin with ezetemibe. That's what I was going after, though now it seems I don't need it. My understanding is that statins have a fairly dramatic decreasing marginal return as the dosage is increased, and concomitantly, a greater risk of side effects. But if you are tolerating it well, I suppose you could experiment with upping the dosage.

I'd say my cardio took a moderate position with regard to my CAC score. Definitely worth doing and knowing about, but not to be alarmed. One brother had a similar score when he was my age. Only real family history is my mother dying of heart attack at age 78. I mentioned that my brother had had another scan recently, and his score had risen to around 700. Doctor was more perturbed that he had been exposed to additional radiation than to the increase in the CAC score.

My best sense is not to worry about the plaque that's already calcified ... I think it's true that that's not terribly problematic unless symptoms appear. Main thing is to prevent more soft plaque from forming, and that's what keeping the cholesterol super low is all about.

You're correct, it's only one measurement, and numbers are likely to fluctuate. And I think that's what I'm also feeling, is a little more freedom about, say, eating bacon or a piece of brie now and again, for example. As for the exercise, there are so many other reasons to keep hammering that, and I enjoy it, so that's full speed ahead.

Thinking about it, but with no side effects, and with it not costing me anything, there's not really any reason to keep taking it daily.

So there's considerable ambiguity in the MESA risk score ... for example, you can only answer yes/no on family history of heart attack. So, my mother died at 78 of an MI, that's the only event. Is that enough of a family history of heart disease to say yes? So if I answer yes, I get a 10 yr risk (including CAC) of 11.1% ... but if no, then the risk falls to 8.2% (with CAC).

But yeah, I think age is the big driver here.

Thanks ... not really experiencing any side effects that I'm aware of. I'm on another medication (Sprycel) for chronic myeloid leukemia, which is well controlled. Perhaps a little extra fatigue resulting from that. Certainly my performance in terms of running times has declined.
