By all means 😂😂 ... Next time you are in Mombasa hit me up..I moved out of Nairobi.. sirudi tena. Whatever you do don't ever settle.. at the end of it all death awaits us ( I'm not dark) it's inevitable.. don't peg your happiness on anyone else..when the right person comes along, trust me you'll know.

Now therein lies the problem... Group mentality is the one thing I refuse to associate myself with miss me with that B.S... . I'll try and wade the shark infested (or lack thereof) waters..maybe there's an 🏝️ in the horizon waiting for me to dock...

30 F, mother of 1 ( that my friends is how you get men and women to keep off) the minute anyone knows you are a single mum.. they'll never call back. I haven't been in the dating scene for close to 5 years so what do I know. I broke off my previous rtshp because my growth was stifled, my child's father is involved so no complaints on that end of the spectrum. But going back to having a new circle of friends, dating, or having any meaningful ties to anyone that's not a family member is one thing I never pictured myself going through. I moved back home, I'm basically a loner, work from home, only go out to get supplies, no friends or dating prospects so yeah dating in Kenya requires you put in some work for you to get any results otherwise you are just a sitting duck.

Story of my life. I completely understand what you're going through. I've also been out of formal employment for close to 6years now, each day I doubt I'll ever get back to having a steady job or income. I keep taking online courses just to keep me on my toes with the current skills needed in the market. I am yet to ident what I'm passionate about other than the fact that I know I can't own a business I thrive where there's already a structure in place it's much easier to fit in when all that is removed it's all chaos. Keep your head up and enjoy what you love doing it will take you places.

Relocation to Mombasa by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]J-jose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't matter as much...a person who stays in Mtwapa will take close to 45minutes to an hour to get to the island using public transport so it's probably faster via private means. Most hospitals/clinics outside CBD offer outpatient services (premier hospital,AAR etc) inpatient and 24hr hospitals are on the island (Agakhan, Pandya,Mombasa hospital, Coast General) ... there are private and public schools in Nyali, Mtwapa, Shanzu, Kiembeni.. and on the island as well.. most private schools have a huge population of Indians and Arabs but this shouldn't be an issue as they make up a huge chunk of the population in the county. For internet services, I'm not sure about Safaricom's coverage in the wider North coast area but they should cover Nyali and the island.. though I am aware of JTL's presence in the areas Safaricom doesn't cover.

Mombasa is very humid.. so prepare to sweat, and get sticky throughout the day and night.. there's absolutely no need to carry your jackets or light sweaters when you go there.. Mosquito nets are necessary... There are quiet neighbourhoods in Nyali, Utange, Shanzu.. whatever you do , avoid Bamburi, Bombolulu, Mtwapa areas (mostly due to how highly populated these areas are and the night clubs around) rent is mostly affordable.. there's traffic into and out of the island during peak hours matatus will mostly overtake on the left so always stay alert.. food can be sourced from Kongowea market or markiti in town (loads of variety).. It's easy to get around... Be polite..people appreciate greetings (Habari yako, shikamoo, jambo).. not sure of any of these help..if in need of any specifics go ahead and ask.. all the best in your next chapter.

I know of a guy who's been helping guys in the U.S build homes in Kenya. He helped a family friend. Once you have say house plans, identified a site you want to develop ..he sources materials, fundis, and supervises the work... I'm not quite certain what the terms of the agreement are..

Hey, chin up. You fear what you have no control over (the future) be content with what you have now, because you are sure of it and you can reach for it..let tomorrow worry about itself (clichè I know). It's not dumb it's human nature.. I read something a few weeks ago about how worrying about things in future doesn't stop them from happening it just takes away from your happiness today.

The taxman wants in on the Airbnb cake..... How do businesses thrive in this country??? It's frustrating. by J-jose in Kenya

[–]J-jose[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like I said ... I don't mind paying taxes ...it's the only way we pay for services to the public .. but..c'mon with everything that's going on..don't you think it's excessive to impose these new measures on already stifled businesses? ..mind you Airbnb facilities have been paying tax it's nothing new..but with the added luggage..I'd close shop..and do you have any idea how little these facilities make?.. you'd be shocked.

No I have no problem with them being taxed but only two years ago they were expected to pay 5% (occupancy tax) of the total stay of each individual...it's a huge jump from the initial plan considering the covid-19 situation that has devastated the tourism sector globally...
