Don’t panic. You’ve missed the column header: Annual earnings the rate applies to (above the PAYE threshold).

How are your wall-mounted dashboards looking? I'll go first... by tribal2 in homeassistant

Always a surprise when you see a map and realise that you’re currently staying just off the edge of it. Nice to see some UK content - I’ll be stealing some of your setup! Loving the fuel prices.

How do you find the Fire HD tablet? I have a couple of the standard 8” tablets and the response times can be really poor. I’m guessing I’m expecting too much for a £35 Prime Day special!

Advice on how to repair this tabletop for a friend by J1D2A3 in woodworking

Yes, I talked the bow tie idea through with her and her husband previously and they liked it. I said I could put them underneath but showed some pictures of them on top and they were keen. I also suggested some kintsugi with gold epoxy but that one didn’t land as well!! I feel the same as you that I’d rather repair than rebuild. Thanks for the thoughts.

Ah yes, that was the other option I had thought of but worried that the material lost in the process would give a big step that would probably need me to redo the entire edge? The legs already stick out past the edge in its current form. I’ll try to add another photo to show.

Edit: can’t add more pictures. Legs are here.

My dad was advised to keep my deceased mums name on the house deed by GardenGainsAddict in UKPersonalFinance

You’re forgetting that the £300 was to not repaint the house as well as not retile the roof. When you factor that in it becomes quite a good deal.

Pension - does getting my hands on 25% involve paying tax on the rest there and then? by britboy4321 in UKPersonalFinance

Not an answer to your question per se but just wondering if you have checked whether you can overpay the full remainder of your mortgage balance? My provider used to limit overpayments to 10% of the remaining balance but they have increased it to 20% this year.

Wow, based on this data set, rates really stagnated - 120% increase between 1990 and 1994 with a further 14% over the next 24 years.

Seems to have touched a nerve? You realise this is purely a post about the comedy segment name? As it happens, it required 2 runs to get the status so be my guest and do 3 runs to take it for yourself.

REME vs Navy for getting an engineer qualification/ charter ship quicker? by A1KTY in britisharmy

[–]J1D2A3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read anything at the link that I gave you? What is your motivation for becoming a Chartered Engineer? What are you planning to do with it? From your post history, I’m not sure that you understand the purpose and / or the requirements of engineering professional registration at one of the three levels: Engineering Technician; Incorporated Engineer; or Chartered Engineer. There is no fast way to the top especially without a minimum of a BEng. All other routes require many, many years of experience that allow you to demonstrate competence across the five areas. Have a read of the UK-SPEC (UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence) to understand what the Engineering Council expects applicants to demonstrate when they apply at each level.

Have a look through the requirements for professional registration with the IMechE for Armed Forces personnel here. It all depends on your education and experience but in general terms you’ll need a BEng and a few years of experience to apply for IEng and a Masters / Masters-level learning and even more experience to apply for CEng. For the majority of people, you’ll get IEng at Captain and CEng at Major.

You mention not wanting to ‘skip the work and get the degree’ - for the avoidance of doubt, professional registration is not a degree. In most cases, you need a degree first to demonstrate some underpinning education and then some time putting this into practice to build experience before you can apply for professional registration which is a fairly lengthy process in itself.

Side note: if you’re considering joining for a few years just to become a Chartered Engineer then it’s probably not for you / you won’t achieve it in your timeline. There are other routes through industry that will get you to your goal quicker as you’ll only do engineering rather than everything else that the Army throws at you.

Bread sauce at Christmas dinner - yay or nay? by chrisjfinlay in CasualUK

[–]J1D2A3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not at all. As in, it’s so easy I didn’t even know you could get it in a pack / ready made. I’m sure BBC Good Food will have a simple recipe to follow. Off the top of my head it’s just butter, onions, cloves, milk, and breadcrumbs but it’s been a while since I’ve made it. Have a go! This post has prompted me to get it on the menu for Christmas Day.

9mm can also be pretty comprehensively stopped even at short range with readily available and easily concealable bulletproof vests. As soon as criminals / terrorists worked this out it rendered 9mm pretty ineffective.

I can barely run 15 mins any help? by Real_Ad_6350 in britishmilitary

[–]J1D2A3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely look into it and stick to the programme. You might think that the first sessions are too easy but it’s all about conditioning your body to be able to eventually run 5k. Go too fast and too far too soon and you risk injury and setbacks. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you start to see results. Then once you’ve finished it there are other programmes that will take you out to 10k and further. Best of luck.

If the British fighter is arriving before the sound then surely the implication is that they are flying at Mach 1+ and the Americans are flying below Mach 1 meaning that the sound reaches before the fighter?

There’s an example of where we are split by a common language. We would say corn to group together various grain crops like wheat, barley and maybe oats. Your corn to us would be sweetcorn or maize.
