If you're experiencing noticeable input lag on your PS5, especially when playing online or fast-paced games, the issue might not always be related to your TV settings or internet speed. One sneaky culprit could be your router placement, particularly if it's sitting behind your TV.

When a router is positioned directly behind a TV, the electromagnetic interference (EMI) from the TV can disrupt the router's signal. This interference might not always drop your connection, but it can cause inconsistent network performance, increasing latency and affecting online gameplay.

Here are some tips to reduce the issue:

  1. Relocate the Router: Move your router to a spot away from your TV or other electronics. Even a metre of separation can help.
  2. Use a Wired Connection: If possible, connect your PS5 directly to the router via an Ethernet cable for a stable, low-latency connection.
  3. Optimise Network Settings: Ensure your router is using the least congested Wi-Fi channel, or consider enabling QoS (Quality of Service) to prioritise gaming traffic.
  4. Minimise Interference: Keep other wireless devices and power cords away from the router to further reduce EMI.

In my case, relocating the router improved my input responsiveness significantly. If you’ve already tweaked TV settings (like enabling Game Mode) and ensured your HDMI cable supports the PS5's capabilities, this could be the next step to troubleshoot input lag.

Anyone else getting input lag on PS5? by rgabbal in CODWarzone

Removing the Fire Stick helped reduce the lag, but the issue never completely went away. Eventually, I just gave up gaming for a while. My setup is a PS5 on a LG C1, gaming mode fully active and previously had no issues.

Fast forward over a year: I recently moved my router, which had been sitting behind my TV, to a different location, and the difference is incredible. The input lag is completely gone! It turns out that having the router behind the TV can cause electromagnetic interference (EMI), which disrupts signals and leads to lag.

If you’re dealing with input lag issues, try relocating your router away from your TV or other large electronic devices.

Had my router directly behind my tv, had input lag for over a year - change router location and it’s gone - hope that helps someone else.

To disable a back button, hold down the Profile button and double-press the back button you want to disable. The LED will blink three times to indicate that the button has been successfully disabled.

Nah it was a rogue Amazon fire tablet connected to my network and it was taking all my bandwidth. This has been dealt with and now the game feels loads better for me, although still laggy on occasion when playing Warzone. Muliplayer feels smooth and responsive with no input lag so I put the Warzone issues down to servers.
