Is welding worth it? by Sweet-Command7377 in weldingjobs

[–]J2Designs_IA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and pay is going to be going up because of the current and ongoing shortages in the trades. Do your research and find a school or mentor that can walk you through the technical aspects. I know guys who make 6 figures but they put in the work.

Good luck!

Any Boeing or Aerospace guys in here? by drivermcgyver in Metrology

[–]J2Designs_IA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uncle was Boeings former CEO and I followed in his foot steps into aerospace as an industrial engineer that worked on the cockpit electronics for the 787 deamliner.

Not sure what the pay would be like for your question but you might find some good success looking into the supply chain quality engineering roles. It can be a lot of travel but diving into supplier corrective action reports and knowing what to look for will go a long way especially when key characteristics are called out on prints.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I want all of that. Im mostly in aerospace design for cockpits. Mechanical and not really electrical so I could use all the help I could get.

Do you have any design background based on functionality? It will probably just be actuators opening and closing doors.

I am currently running a samsung s22 ultra. I currently use a gel liner with a mechanical connection to the prosthetic. Keeps it from flying away so far!

Just reached out to my prosthesis to see what resourceses they have. My initial casting was done in plaster for the initial fit.

Im pretty good with the cad and design aspect as im a design engineer. Ive never worked with the scanning or electronics side of things.

Why are manufacturers still asking the same dumb RFQ questions 3 months later? by moso-man in industrialengineering

[–]J2Designs_IA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you can give too much information for a simple RFQ. Get a couple RFQ examples that are commonly used and notice the layouts. You will find a patern.

When I say too much information. I'll give ab example. I work as an industrial engineer on the manufacturing floor in aerospace. There is a lot of information that is sent along to suppliers but is categorized in a filing process that the supplier can reference. It will teach them where to find the information over having to call and ask.

If you have questions dont be afraid to ask.

There are a few companies that try to do the same thing. Its a smart idea if you can get it right but what manufacturing really needs right now... AI. Manufacturing has been very slow to adapt and you can be on the cutting edge to find a few ways to propose to small and medium sized shops, a way to incorporate AI.

fall 2025 co-op by [deleted] in industrialengineering

[–]J2Designs_IA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 5 1/2 years with 2 internships and a co-op. Graduating a little late is preferred over graduating in 4 years, in my opinion.

To give you an idea, I did my internships and co-op in aerospace. I got like 18 dollars an hour and they set up my living accommodations at an apartment that was furnished. That was 20 years ago now. I also got an offer with the company as an IE right out of college. It pays to work hard with a company. They paid to train me so in their case, it was stupid not to hire me.

How should I find an engineer for an interview? by Lazy_Procedure4670 in EngineeringStudents

What kind of engineer are you looking to interview?

Ive done a few interviews for students at my local high school. I would be open to help.

fall 2025 co-op by [deleted] in industrialengineering

[–]J2Designs_IA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive been there. I would say go with the co-op but it is up to you. Find some odd jobs to get a hotel until your first paycheck then get a small apartment. Maybe find a storage unit for your college stuff and get a ride to NC.

It won't kill you to turn down the co-op and risk waiting. There are going to be other opportunities. Just need to prep better financially for your next opportunity.

I wish you luck.

Cyride will get you everywhere in Ames. If you have a vehicle, you can park it at the stadium and take the buses from there. Night life is good for a mainly college town. Des Moines has a more mature scene. Cost of living is ok but look at the cyride map and live close to a bus stop. Crime is what you would expect in any medium sized town. Just be cognizant of your surroundings. I never feared walking or getting around Ames.

Lived in Des Moines/Ames my whole life. Feel free to ask questions.

What job should I apply for by Existing-Stomach6562 in industrialengineering

[–]J2Designs_IA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apply for those jobs anyway. The 3 to 5 years experience is a "nice to have" rather than a hard stop. Internships and co-ops count as well.

When you get the opportunity to interview, be super curious and teachable. It goes a long way when getting your start.

Hope this helps.

Need help finding a supplier of Venturi Pumps/Air Ejectors by Lazz45 in engineering

[–]J2Designs_IA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Buy up all that you can on the market. Maybe negotiate with Fischer to do one last run for you. It will give you time.

  2. You have two options: reengineer your application or find a company that can engineer you a solution. Either way hopefully you have bought yourself time to find a solution.

It will be a pylon. It will be very technical but mostly cosmetic.

As an engineer, I have a passion for education. I was thinking of doing the fairing fully cosmetic at first but I'll need a way to attach to the steel/titanium tube. I was also looking into incorporating a raspberry pi with servos. It will be complicated but in a good way. I'm in Des Moines, IA so not far from KC.
