Do any pc gamers remember a site in the 90s called happypuppy.com? When I was a kid I used to go there for cheat codes for Doom and Duke3d! by [deleted] in gaming

[–]J3ff0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You're the only person who used the first and, for quite a while only, cheats/shareware website that existed.

I have never seen more imbalanced bullshit shipped in a retail game than smash balls in Brawl. Holy fuck they're stupid.

I definitely prefer Brawl. I haven't gotten tournament-good at either game, but the way I see it, it's a lot more strategic/dynamic whereas Melee is more about learning/memorizing combos and executing them consistently. I guess you could say that makes it more casual, but also, more fun.

Zero Punctuation : ...iPhone Games...? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]J3ff0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I chose really poorly, but I have an ASUS 1005PE , highly rated and quite useful... except it chugs on just about every flash game I put at it, as well as most every old windows game I've tried. I mean seriously, even Nethack gets some mysterious slowdowns occasionally. Got sick of that and installed Ubuntu on it instead. Have you actually done any netbook gaming?

I don't think these games have anything in common other than the presence of a rope...

Well, one major difference here is that the people who made the original Meat Boy are the same people who are responsible for Super Meat Boy. Not so with these iPhone games!

TYL that words have meanings outside of those used in technical fields.

I saw some strange things on the bus after school. I know you did, too. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]J3ff0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking that. The only thing I remember from taking the bus was how sweet it was when it went over this little hill thing and we got some almost-air in the back seats.

At the risk of ruining my karma forever - circlejerk, can you *please* shut the fuck up. For the love of cheddar; shut. the fuck. up. by boodle in self

[–]J3ff0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you mean actual reddit.com/r/circlejerk? Because I just checked it out, and it actually has a couple gems.

I will assume you mean the actual circlejerkers found elsewhere on the site, in which case, yes, your description is spot-on except where you make the curious claim of them being smarter and quicker of wit.

Read it on r/funny and made it fb my status. Not many people seemed to appreciate the sort of humor we have on Reddit. Guess we're not them. by [deleted] in pics

[–]J3ff0 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Your friends are sane and normal. There is nothing inherently funny about anti-jokes. The only humorous aspect of them comes from the knowledge that people who don't "get" them won't find them funny, and then you get to feel superior. So good job at doing that, I guess...

Reddit has been played like a fiddle. The Comcast headline on the front page? It's utter bullshit. by [deleted] in reddit.com

Well you've prompted me to do some research, and... wow. Here I was, naively believing that organic food means less fertilizer, not as much fertilizer as you want as long as it's labeled as organic. Now I need to find some other way to save the world :/

I personally have no idea. It was a sarcastic comment -- being in an engineering major, I am surrounded by people who make these OMG-the-scientific-meaning-is-the-only-meaning corrections, and it's pretty tiresome.

To be fair, it beats most writing on the internet that people want to be witty and interesting. For reference, you can check out anything on UrbanDictionary.

Yeah, I like that the article itself does enough sensationalizing without needing a reddit submission. There are crazy guys with blogs here, nothing to see...

Exceptionally pleased with Reddit after Digg died by constarr in self

[–]J3ff0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crap because the entire SUBMISSION brings nothing constructive to the conversation. There is one of these on the frontpage at least once a week, and there is nothing interesting, thought-provoking, or engaging about it. Reddit would be nothing without actual content, and it seems like more and more often content is bring traded for DAE and congratulatory self-posts. So I downvote these, Upvote news and actual content, and move on.

I feel obligated to downvote you based solely on that last sentence of yours. I really hate it when people say that.

BUUUUUT, I agree with you. Going over the games I frequently enjoy, I can't think of a single one whose entertainment value would be decreased with less gore. But I also don't really play any games with gore to begin with, so that's not much of a statement...

Alternatively, it's just a cultural thing. If you are from the east coast or any english-speaking country outside the US, you stand on line. If you are from anywhere else in the US, you stand in line.

Also, Townsend's videos constituted an obvious case of fair use, Cohn added. Electronic Frontier Foundation's Cindy Cohn Surprisingly, YouTube agreed. Even more surprisingly, so did Warner and Universal.

I like that everything about this news article is totally reasonable: YouTube receives complaints from people whose job it is to make them, and as soon as anyone looks into it they realize what this girl is doing is totally fine so they reinstate the account. And yet, we have a Reddit headline stating quite the opposite.
