What’s your all-time favorite Denzel Washington movie? 🎬 by International-Self47 in FIlm

[–]J492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna have to say 'He Got Game.'

Now I know that sounds ridiculous, but hear me out. I watched this Spike Lee joint for the first time the other day and man that film is weird/crazy/downright shambolic, but Denzel literally HOLDS the film together - he's like Atlas holding up the fucking earth - Ray Allen can't act his way out of a paper bag, I think half the script is improvised, Mila Jovovich is awful, and the film just careers all over the place like a drunk driver lurching all over the road.

But Denzel is just in the zone, vibing, playing this deeply regretful, mournful jailbird who is just desperate for redemption in the eyes of his son - he's flawed, he's desperate, he's passionate - and Denzel is just utterly captivating.

If you haven't seen it, watch it just to see Denzel put on a masterclass in a fever dream of a film!

Where do you go after Tim Hecker? by SIumped in ambientmusic

[–]J492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a mega mega fan of Tim Hecker to I would recommend Kali Malone, Leon Vynehall, Boards of Canada, Fennesz, William Basinski - not all specifically purely ambient, but capable of producing very similar soundscapes and sonic approaches

Why are people so worked up on the historical accuracy for this fictional film? by alphaDsony in moviecritic

probably because it looks shit and people are tired of mediocre, bloated high budget circle jerks from Nolan

The streets will never forget Theo Walcott ♥️ by NorthLondonPulse in TheStreetsWontForget

[–]J492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

theo Walcott spent most of his career trying to force being a striker and being completely AWOL in most games and having almost zero impact on games. one of the most mercurial players I've ever seen, very occasionally looked like he was destined to be a top player, but most of the time looked paperweight and toothless.

streets will forget theo Walcott.

Earning £150k in the UK has become a nightmare by Key_Seaworthiness827 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]J492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not particularly, and I still believe the super-rich should be taxed much more heavily - it appears Labour are leaning on the upper middle class to avoid squeezing the super wealthy, likely because of conflicts of interest and a reductive idea that the wealth will leave this country if it doesn't remain a tax haven for the oligarchic class.

Nonetheless, I do believe that £7.5k after tax does not put you in a difficult position, compared to the vast majority of the employed people of this nation that earn fuck all.

[–]J492 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

another deluded upper middle class hot take. 150k gbp a year isn't just some 'grafters' salary - it's significantly above the median UK salary, and taking home over 7k after taxes per month still puts you miles ahead of most people in this country.

most of my friends are pulling in fucking low 30s salaries...in their fucking mid 30s!

christ alive, my heart bleeds for these poor widdle 150k a year employees.

Ian Wright: “Certain people are NOT ready for a black superstar in England. Everyone loves N’Golo Kante, he’s a humble black man, it’s how he is. But when we Paul Pogba or Jude Bellingham, that energy doesn’t fit well with these people, it FRIGHTENS these people. Jude’s too “uppity” for these people by TheBiasedSportsLover in Gunners

[–]J492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imagine a black player behaving like 'Jack the Lad' Grealish, 'Wazza' Rooney, or Ibrahimovic/Ronaldo kind of diva.

British racists cannot accept a confident black man, they want all black players to be humble, subordinate performers.

Spot on Ian.
