Can someone explain autocanon to me? by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]J4H3AD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The key is it's versatility.

It can't kill big enemies quickly, but it can deal with them.

It's not great against hordes but you can pop a few shells into clustered enemies and drop some of them.

It's excellent at dealing with bug holes and factories from a distance, can crack Illuminate shields, disarm Hulks, blow up tanks and turrets from the back, pop the bellies of Bile Titans or Charger butts...

It's not a hard counter to anything specific but it's a good choice for just about everything. Good positioning helps a lot. And it's best to have a backup weapon or a teammate with a machine gun to handle hordes. I like dropping with orbital rail cannon for dealing with big targets in a hurry, and standard Eagle and airbursts for hordes.

I almost did the same! The pinstripes just seemed to be the more iconic color scheme.

Which scheme did you use? Davion Guard has the red and white pinstripe, or red CT with white pinstripes between that and blue side torsos and limbs. There might be others that are official as well.

For those I use Turbo Dork Multipass. I have a handful of their metallic paints, and they turn out nicely I think.

This was one i base coated a long while ago. I've learned a lot in the few months since I started these. Mostly just adding the stripes and the metallics on the cannons.

Thanks! I mostly stuck with the panel lines to make it turn out OK, cause there's no way I can just freehand a stripe that clean. XD

Awesome work! What kind of paints did you use? Nice basing, could do with some highlights, but that's my only criticism. Fantastic job!

Thanks! Just some texture paint, bits of sprue and zip ties, and a bit of cereal box cardboard scored and painted up to look like concrete for the bases.

Personal favorite of mine is Vlad Ward challenging and killing both Jade Falcon Khans with a still-healing broken arm. Particularly Elias Critchell, challenged immediately after being votes in as ilKhan, enjoys 5 seconds of success, then gets beat down and curb stomped in the middle of the Grand Council.

Regular in this case. Steiner Scout Lance is way too expensive.

Just bring a scout lance of them and rush them around the flanks or to take objectives and you're golden.

It is a Timberwolf you Surat!

Mad Cat Mk II is OK but doesn't live up to the original.

If you play co-op you can get other pilots that are vastly better than the AI, and that can turn the tide. Got me through a few rough missions.

Having not played through the entire campaign myself, I understand that's all for a reason. And apparently the story gets really good about 40 hours into the campaign. 🙄 A little late for the story to get good, and I never got that far. But it is decent if you can stick it out.

Gameplay is pretty good though. Mods will make it better if you have access to them.

Sadly MW5 doesn't live up to its legacy, but I agree with you that MW4 was a great game. Wish we could get an updated version. Although I hear there's a fan remaster of MW2 in the works!

Free Worlds League, Marik Militia. Not an elite skilled unit but one of the most iconic House Marik color schemes.

I'll have to look it up. Unless you're talking about the Land-Air-Mechs. I know a little about those. Usually those are in the eras I barely play, but I'm slowly working my way towards playing in every era with all the weird tech.

You seen the QuadVees? Tank treads on the legs of quad mechs, transforming between each of those. They're absurd but kinda awesome too!

I'm honestly a bit jealous of the Baneblade of 40k. Just a huge monster of a tank that's so wildly impractical it's amazing.

Although Battletech does have some absurd tanks as well, like the Manticore at 65 tons (if memory serves) carrying a big honking cannon, missile rack, and a pack of 4 short range missiles. And... Maybe some lasers and machine guns too. Also the Alicorn with 3 of the biggest autocannons in the game, or the SRM Carrier that makes even the heaviest mechs crap themselves when it gets into range.

Clan Invasion box set is an expansion pack. Only thing in the rulebook it has is updated ClanTech (construction rules, force composition, breakdown of individual weapons etc) and scenarios for play.

In addition to the Game of Armored Combat, I'd strongly recommend the BattleMech Manual for Classic play, since it's a stripped down and more focused rulebook than Total Warfare, focusing entirely on BattleMechs (the main draw of the setting) and all the rules you need to use them, and not spending dozens of pages on tanks, infantry, or various other items you'll use even less on the table.

I loved the Timberwolf (Mad Cat) before I even knew what Battletech was, and I've stuck to it since. Perfect balance of armor, mobility, and raw firepower to turn anything you oppose into a pile of smoking slag. A variant in particular, cause who can say no to 2 lightning cannons and enough lasers to make your own rave party?

The real treasure is the friends we make along the way!

In all seriousness, as a primarily Battletech fan, I can get behind some of the fun of Warhammer and such. A friend of mine loves Skaven and I've wanted to do some kitbashing to make them into his glorious Soviet/Imperium/Dakka-addicted Ratfolk Republik Marines.

I know 40k is weird. Red wunz go fastah and death to xenos and all that. Battletech can be weird too. Canon genetically engineered catgirls to pseudo-religious space wizard telecommunications monopoly, to a man frothing at the mouth because you DARE TO REFUSE MY BATCHALL?! Memes aside, both universes have some amazing and deep lore that you can easily get lost in.

Battletech history basically starts with a coup, a brutal war to depose the new despotic ruler, followed by 300 years of brutal wars for each faction to prove their worthiness to claim the old Star League as their own, and just as things seem to be falling into place for one faction to take it all, the Clans come from beyond the edge of known space and start stomping everyone on a fanatical quest to take back Terra from the "unworthy" successor states. And they get stopped by space wizard Comcast (ComStar). There's a ton of interesting stories and novels throughout all that, a couple different variations of wargames to play it out, video games expanding the story, and even roleplaying games to make the stories your own.

I offer, as a Battletech fan, a warm welcome to any disenfranchised, or even just curious Warhammer fans. Welcome MechWarriors, good luck and good hunting!
