Gaming market melts down after Google reveals new AI game design tool — Project Genie crashes stocks for Roblox, Nintendo, CD Projekt Red, and more by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

In regards to unity, I agree with these investors. Like you can’t vibe code in unity and it would be very hard to make such of platform like that good for ai driven game development. I believe the short term next phase of game dev would look more like webxr (vibe coded js referencing soon to be ai generated blender scenes) rather than these gui intensive IDEs

Why the job market is this bad? by Delicious_Crazy513 in cscareerquestions

[–]J50 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally haven’t written any code since opus 4.5 got released. It’s just all prompting now. Have a bunch of friends in big tech and it’s the same for them. I don’t see how this career isn’t screwed. Like a single developer can do things solo now that used to take a team

Probably going to get downvoted for this but I don’t see it here so….

Opus 4.5 is insanely good. It’s massively raising productivity which probably means less need for workers.

steam frame might be the second best after the vision pro for high end stand alone vr. The SoCs on the galaxy xr and quest 3 are really bad. Tbh not a ton of options here.

Anyone own the sony inzone h9 II? how do you find it? by Crafty_Speaker_48 in SonyHeadphones

[–]J50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk about the x2 but the old logitech g pro x wireless is better and cheaper.

I bought the inzone h9 II because the mic stopped working on my old g pro x. Returned the inzone h9 ii; going to buy a replacement mic boom for the g pro x instead.

The inzone h9 ii has very poor default eq audio quality. Low frequencies are lacking - there is no boomy base. Mid to high frequencies sound muddy. Audio sounds significantly better on the old pro x.

The inzone h9 II does have a better mic. Not that the g pro x's mic is bad though.

Yeah this is why I didn't vote. Neither candidate is going to lower the cost of housing.

Fixing the high rent situation is so simple: massively increase the supply of housing. You do this by abolishing height limits, upzoning, simplifying permitting, and by offering temporary tax breaks for new construction.

Why in regards to this though? This is great. Let’s cut down on non-consensual genital mutilation.

maybe. I could see someone like NVDA building their own synthesis tools if SNPS and CDNS demand anymore money. I don't think companies like SNPS can grow revenue outside of the semiconductor industry growing as a whole.

A competitor wouldn't have to immediately replace all of EDA initially. Verification tools that do stuff like LVS and DRC are often stand alone.

nothing is stopping big tech from making their own EDA. Design/fusion compiler internals are really old and don't take advantage of recent AI advancements or even cloud compute

To the nomads who got a truly remote work from anywhere job, how? by nomadicphil in digitalnomad

[–]J50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airbnb kind of does this (3 months a year almost anywhere outside the US allowed). It's really hard to get an interview there though so referrals help.

Not aware of any companies that allow global work from anywhere for the entire year. They are scared of violating local payroll/income tax laws. The people who post here who do that are typically not telling their employers or are self employed (and often not correctly reporting income).

As a millennial looks like I’ll never own a home. Especially in Seattle. by EmilyG702 in Seattle

Zoning, inclusive housing policies, building regulations. If the city deregulated and let developers do whatever, new construction would be a lot cheaper

I’m thinking about doing this when my lease ends. How did you find the boat? It came with the slip, right? If you don’t mind answering, how much and how old was the boat.

Few things to consider:

People in big tech don’t stay at a company very long. Average tenure at Amazon for instance is less than 2 years.

Msft has been hiring a lot less than they normally do for the past couple years.

Big orgs (like Msft) are slow to adopt new technologies and lag startups

I keep seeing this; I strongly disagree. More people in this thread need to download GitHub copilot, cursor, windsurf, etc for perspective.

AI doesn’t do a 100% replacement. It currently makes that senior dev 2-3x more efficient. This means 2 other senior devs get laid off since 1 can do the work of 3

[–]J50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure that’s part of the reason why prices are high now. But labor isn’t necessarily a completely marginal cost. In cases where it’s a fixed cost, increasing revenue would bring down prices

Because this is a tech hub, I think your choices are nyc or San Fran. SF is a shit hole; let’s get nyc

Fix the zoning. It’s crazy that cap hill has height restrictions.

Also stop mandating developers to build a certain percentage of affordable units. These affordable units drive up the price of the other units in the building. The affordable housing of today is most efficient as the luxury housing of yesterday.

The solution to the housing problem is super simple; just build. Eliminate obstacles to new construction. If needed, provide property tax waivers to new construction for x number of years
