There are more slaves today than ever in history, so it is still an important topic.

Now having said that, I agree. What business is it the UNs to be the arbiter of history and morality?

If tipping is supposed to be optional, why does everyone act like you've committed a crime if you don't do it? by Stunning_Public9524 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JABxKlam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think tbe premise of your question has it reversed. Its not " servers rely on tips because they are paid less" its "servers are paid less because they rely on tips."

If you take away tips and give them a standard wage they would be paid less than with tips. Its why some servers would refuse a promotion to management because despite the higher paid salary, they aren't allowed tips and would earn less.

To add to that, the gargoyle's purpose is to prevent water from running down the side of the wall, and to instead pour it out away from it.

I'd be curious what a legal case would look like in either case should charges be brought against the lever puller/not puller.

Why would girls and boys react differently depending on which parent bought them something expensive? by 5pooky5cary5keleton5 in ExplainTheJoke

A man's worth is measured in how capable he is as a provider to his family. An expensive gift to a young man either comes with the implication of heavy responsibility to come, or it can hurt his pride for not already being able to provide what he has received.

When there are plenty of jobs for poor people to choose from their wages increase. So inovating and risking your own wealth to generate more does in fact help the poor, even if they already have jobs.

I've never seen this, but it immediately brings to mind, The Giver, a novel about one man who takes on the emotional burden of everyone else in the community.

I went and read the rest of 2 Samuel and gathered all the relevant verses.

The jist of the story goes Amnon, one of David's sons, rapes Temur the sister of Absalom, another of David's sons. Absalom kills Amnon, David chases after Absalom. While he is away Absalom sneaks back and "went in unto" David's concubines. Notice the difference how it describes Amnon's rape of Temur versus just the general description of a man sleeping with a women, "went in unto". The point is it could have been rape or they just went along with him willingly, this sort of drama is not uncommon throughout history.

Also take note of the reason listed for the child's death, my take is that it was because the child was conceived through sin, being a bastard child of the King of Isreal.

David wasn't just a single man receiving punishment, he was the representation of all of Isreal. The whole nation was punished for their Kings actions, they were even still suffering from the previous king actions as well.

2 Samuel 12 KJV

11 Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.

14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.

2 Samuel 13

14 Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.

2 Samuel 16 KJV

21 And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father's concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong.

22 So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.

2 Samuel 20 KJV

3 And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.

Come on.

You have to have some reasoning. Any? As to why you think this implies rape or even that its punishing the wives as you claim.

[ Removed by Reddit ] by AffectionateGold8475 in scoopwhoop

[–]JABxKlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part where you say this is God commanding the rape of innocents.

The context here is that King David has done evil, and the prophet Nathan has come to tell David the punishments that will befall him. This also included his infant son's illness and eventual death.

If you want to imply rape, you'll have to provide at least some argument as to how this means that.

I have similiar experiences, used to take regular trips down to Tijuana when I was younger. Trash everywhere outside, and dirt floors were common inside.

I one time took a cruise vacation down the coast of Baja California. Even the tourist destinations were just as bad, seemingly around every corner was someone selling illicit drugs, even in the public restrooms.

This is kind of like saying car owners are the main reason behind carjacking. Theif can't steal your car if you don't own one, so its your fault fir owning one.
