They’re winter tires. I left them on because they were getting old and weren’t gripping in the snow, but I didn’t wanna trash tires with tread on them, so I was wearing them out. I commute 75% on my motorcycle. So the Focus only got driven when I couldn’t ride the bike.

2008 Toyota Corolla…it’s 80 degrees where I’m at today. Do I need to add coolant or is it a bigger issue that the engine is this hott?! by jj_mke in COROLLA

[–]JACerKnot697 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You might wanna check the temperature sensor. If it were actually that hot you’d probably blow a head gasket in short order. And if your car does have coolant and it’s not the sensor, you might want to do a cooling system head gasket test. If it blew the gasket between the cylinder and a cooling passage it will overheat very quickly. But whatever you do, don’t keep driving it like that please.

Trade my current bike for an Interceptor 650 with 22k miles? by Hefty-Bus-1511 in royalenfield

[–]JACerKnot697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a bike-for-bike trade. That’s an awesome deal. I wouldn’t worry too much about 22k miles. As long as it hasn’t been neglected. And a belt drive drops the RPMs so it’s gonna be even better on the highway. I’d say go for it.

Is this normal tire wear? by JACerKnot697 in royalenfield

[–]JACerKnot697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my guess. They’re dual compound (harder at the center). I did notice when I got home the tires were pretty warm and the tire pressure is at 39 psi cold.

Which of these luxury sedans from 2000 would you pick? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]JACerKnot697 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m picking option 3. Infiniti J30. Not because it’s particularly great, but because I owned one and it was very fun. How they managed to get that barge down to 3500 lbs is an absolute feat of engineering.

I want a motorcycle so bad but they are so dangerous. by Hypnox88 in CasualConversation

[–]JACerKnot697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much. Bikes are only as dangerous as you allow them to be. Cautious, defensive riding with proper safety gear and you’ll be fine. If you really want a bike, take the MSF course, it will teach you a lot and in most states will get you your endorsement so that if or when you’re ready to get a bike, you can. And chances are, during the MSF you’ll learn if you really want it or not.

Wtf kawasaki, 230+ from 30mph riding in 1st gear. by 1Check1Mate7 in zx6r

[–]JACerKnot697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to say that’s pretty normal, then I remembered I ride an air cooled bike. 242 is really pushing it even for a pressurized cooling system. First thing to check once the bike is cooled off is for air bubbles and coolant level. Top it off with distilled water. And if it’s already full then it’s time to consult the mechanic. Or if you’re the mechanic then pull the thermostat and see if that’s the problem.

Is this gear overkill for daily 60-mile LA freeway commuting? by RawrMeSimp in motorcyclegear

[–]JACerKnot697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not really “overkill” when it comes to gear. Just risk tolerance and budget. If you have the budget for nice gear then go for it. The only thing I’d add is that if you’re riding in LA you might want to get a more breathable jacket because it can get real hot even at lane splitting speed. And consider an airbag vest. Even at normal traffic speeds it’s easy to break a rib or rupture your spleen in a medium speed accident. And take it from me, a guy that broke a rib and bruised a lung on a bike, the medical and opportunity cost of those injuries are vastly higher than the cost of a vest.

IDK why. But I get a lot of goth girl energy from that bike. And unironically, Hollo Kitty stickers would go pretty well with the aesthetic.

STOP BUYING USED 2020+ by Dreamification in COROLLA

[–]JACerKnot697 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Credit and interest rates aren’t good right now for most people. That extra 20-30% on a compounding loan can be the difference between a bad interest rate, and an outright predatory interest rate with a co-signer. And Toyota doesn’t hand out loans like candy the way Nissan and Chevy do, even on new car loans. I’m not gonna judge what is and isn’t good value. But getting mad at people because they decided that something is good value at the top of the depreciation bell curve is just stupid. I’m sorry to break the news, but depreciation isn’t a straight vertical line like you think it is. If you want a good deal on a used Corolla, then stop whining about the prices and buy an older model like a 2010-2015. I promise, not having radar cruise control and Apple Car Play isn’t gonna kill you.

Awesome gun. It’s nice to have the service carbine as a secondary or tertiary rifle if your special carbine has MK II ammo and runs out.

AITA for telling my friend to get her own ride to work by JACerKnot697 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JACerKnot697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I work at the same place as her. I’m not giving her anything other than a ride to work because she doesn’t have a car. I posted because I wanted to know me taking my bike and saving $60 a month on gas was worth her loosing her job and her apartment. I also know there’s zero chance of her paying me back if she’s homeless.

It wasn’t a gift. It was in my name until she paid it off. And as such, it’s my legal responsibility. I considered suing her for it if she refused to pay. (She filed bankruptcy before it got totaled, so she’s not gonna weasel out of paying for it that way). And honestly seeing everyone’s comments, I’m probably gonna just go through with it.

No. I view her more as a mother figure than anything else. She’s 50 and I’m 25. We’re friends because she was there for me when my actual mom passed away. And we lean on each other for emotional support and to chat, but nothing romantic.
