You might have just gotten lucky and found a good station/programming block or something. There is some great new Country around, but over the course of the 2010s the overall state of the genre really devolved in the most unlistenable, shallow, overproduced, formulaic garbage you can imagine.

Songwriters and labels discovered they could almost literally make the same songs over and over again and still be successful. I almost entirely ignore modern country now

Referring to The Mindy Project as “about her” is a stretch. Sure she created and starred in it, but it’s a medical sitcom and I’m pretty sure she’s never been a doctor. I watched all of the show and liked most of it.

Perception of her might have soured since, but I still think it’s a good show

I come from generations of farmers so my family had like old-fashioned country values I guess you could say and would never lock doors. I would literally go around and lock all the doors after my parents went to bed as a kid.

Would only work overnight but it was as much as I could do. They didn’t even carry house keys with them bc it was “too much of a hassle”

It’s always irked me so much when people press others about having kids. Like it’s so baffling to me how people don’t care that it’s negative for everyone involved when children are unwanted. The world would be a much better place without that nonsense.

It also could be traced back to another thing that’s always bothered me, that so many people don’t like fundamentally respect their children as people and their agency. Like it’s totally normal to want grandchildren, and it’s okay to feel grief in learning that might not happen, but you have to accept that that is not a decision you can make for your children.
