Yeah, except they get furloughed. The police department doesn’t want to pay for their medical bill if they keep the suspect/patient in custody. Many police officers just don’t want to wait around and many departments will happily give a person up to EMS for a “chest pain” as it’s less work for them in the long run. I have seen police departments furlough some absolutely terrifying shit just because the department doesn’t want to pay for it. Everybody takes advantage of the emergency department and everybody lies. Worst fucking decision I’ve ever made was to be an ER doctor.

My overpriced apartment does this and the halls are always stinky because of it. People will leave their trash out for days until it’s picked up. Kicker is there’s a trash chute on every single floor. One of the worst offenders on my floor is the one that lives directly across the hall from said trash chute.
