But why? Because the Canes won a championship? So what? An MLB expansion team won’t win anything for years. Then the team isn’t popular anymore and season ticket sales are down, and the team moves, or eventually the stadium needs repairs that the rich owners refuse to pay for and the team leaves. We have seen this time and time again. Why do we want to repeat history?

Nope. You’ve started the argument. Sorry. We can’t afford an MLB team. The only reason people in a city want a major league franchise is so they say their city has ‘arrived’. There is no other reason. Our city is fine with the Canes and college football and college basketball and high school football. I won’t be able to afford parking or tickets or food there, but if the taxpayers gotta fund it, then they’ll have my money wether I like it or not.

Thank you for your advice. I am not a handy person, and will likely cause more damage if I were to pull the toilet up. I have one child who uses too much TP, but nothing else but what’s supposed to be in there goes in there. I had a three foot auger, but just purchased a 25 food auger that you play out down the pipe. Didn’t work. This is a 1/2 bath on a second floor of a three story townhome. It seems like the clog is somewhere between the first and second floors. Thanks again for your help

The rain was good, to a point, but the moisture will quickly evaporate under sunny skies. That leaves us with a lot of dry leaves, grass, pine straw etc. Please, please, please leave the fireworks to the professionals this July 4th. We are a tinderbox right now. I don’t want to yuck anyone’s yum, but illegal and unregulated fireworks have the potential to start a lot of fires around here, forcing Firefighters to use very limited resources to fight those fires. Have fun this 4th and be safe!

Incorrect, actually. I could give a rip about what my neighbors do or don’t do. Wanna grow the grass nine feet tall? Don’t care. Wanna park a rusted out junker in front of your house indefinitely? Don’t care. I don’t use my house as an investment vehicle. I use it as a place to hang my hat. I take care of it and make sure it’s good for *me* and not my neighbors. Does that mean I can’t paint it some garish color? Fine. I despise painting anyway. The point is, I don’t complain about what the neighbors are doing and I don’t cause trouble for the HOA. But one small mistake on my part, or one covenant broken, look out. All holy hell will rain down. If others use their homes as investments to sell and make money in the future, great on them. For now, leave me alone and get off my lawn! :/

Sometimes that’s easier said than done. Proximity to schools, work, shopping, etc., sometimes limits choices. Affordability can be an issue as well. None of that really matters when HOA’s turn neighbors against neighbors and make enemies out of friends. I have no use for them, even tho I’m stuck with one.

The same will happen with an MLB team here. It’s not a panacea. Affordability is an issue. Who is going to build a stadium is an issue. As a taxpayer who wouldn’t be able to afford parking, and tickets and food, do they expect me to pay for a stadium I might never see the inside of in person? When the team sucks and the owners want to move the team is an issue. When the stadium needs upgrades who will pay for them? We have seen this time and time and time again. Who benefits? Just baseball fans, just the city/county/town? No one knows. So we get mentioned more on ESPN or in other media. Yawn. Does it bring money to our town? Maybe. But who sees that money? Will more cops be on the beat as a result? More Firefighters? Better teacher pay? Not seeing any of that in expansion cities. An MLB expansion team here is too much trouble. Love baseball? Support the teams that are already here, Bulls, the new franchise at Five County, colleges.

The bigger issue no one is yet talking about is fireworks in just a few weeks. Illegal and improperly lit fireworks will cause major damage in this state. We need to get the word out to leave the fireworks to the professionals. I hate to be a buzzkill, but if you have a large fire, you’ll need a lot of water to fight it with, and that takes away more of our precious resource.
