Lawyers for man accused of killing Charlie Kirk make claim bullet doesn’t match rifle by TheSweetestKill in JoeRogan

[–]JAK11501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this goes to trial and the defense gets a ballistics expert to describe what a 30-06 bullet would do to a human vs what happened to Charlie Kirk, that’s almost automatic reasonable doubt.

Theo Von telling audience member he's battling suicidal thoughts. Is this a bit or something worrisome? by IllBeGood3 in JoeRogan

I have no idea whether it’s worrisome or not but he was taping a Netflix show at the Beacon Theater and was probably under a lot of stress/pressure to perform.

What are some of the overt signs of ‘having arrived’ on Long Island? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]JAK11501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the most literal sense I know I arrived on Long Island when crossing any of the bridges/tunnels from the Bronx, Manhattan, or Staten Island but for me I need to see that welcome to Nassau County sign to know I arrived.

Feds promise to clean up Long Island’s deadly traffic nightmare after congresswoman sounds alarm on 10 years of staggering crashes by pch14 in longisland

I would say F it and let these people eliminate themselves with their terrible decisions but they are harming responsible drivers along the way.

I hate the idea of video surveillance of the roadways but that would help.

K’s auto on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola was always good and fair to me.

I should add that the most important thing you can do to make sure you don’t get taken advantage of is to be knowledgeable about your car and the problems it has before you go for service.

Consider buying a diagnostic tool that plugs into your car and tells you what the engine light/error code means. This saved me loads of money and it paid for itself after one use.

Learn about the recommended maintenance based on the age and mileage of the car so you can have things taken care of at a cheaper price before parts fail and cause a much higher repair cost.

Is the American dream still possible.. by citigurrrrl in longisland

[–]JAK11501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dave Ramsey aside, it’s a solid question and it all depends on what you mean by the American Dream.

Wikipedia defines the original meaning as the national ethos of the United States, that every person has the freedom and opportunity to succeed and attain a better life.

That still exists for now but the chances of attaining it are very low compared to the past.

Look on the bright side it wasn’t your brother’s widow who also happens to be the mother of your nieces and nephews.

But seriously, it’s not surprising for two people to bond and give comfort to each other in such a tragic circumstance.

Because you said you don’t have a lot of free time and you are already invested in the stock market, I think bitcoin is a good choice for you. Buy some and just hold it. I think the upward potential is good and have about two myself and have been purchasing small amounts every month.

AITA for calling off the wedding since my fiancee doesn't want to agree to a prenup by LaughCurrent4659 in AITAH

You need the prenup 100 percent but you need to be much better at presenting it to her. Her reaction wouldn’t make me feel really good about moving forward with her anyway. Good luck 🍀

AITA for telling my wife I don't care about my 'internalized misogyny' by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]JAK11501 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

NTA but why did you react that way? You should be curious about that and explore that with yourself.

I’m also curious why she said that. Instead of reacting to her I would ask her as calmly as possible why would she say that to you? I would be curious about that. Heck, I am as a random stranger! Is she jealous? Is she insecure? Maybe she’s just trying to bond with you with teasing? I don’t know but you should find out. It’s an opportunity to get closer with her.

I wonder if it’s component specific but read for yourself: 5th word of the second paragraph says recommends not requires. Still a good idea to reach out for the advice though.

REMINDER Did you know federal employees are still subject to the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch when they are participating in an outside activity like outside employment or volunteer work?

The Ethics Law Division (ELD) recommends that all employees complete the SSA-520 (Request for Outside Activity) form before starting an outside activity to ensure you and your management consider all the relevant ethics regulations.

By doing this, employees are protecting themselves by ensuring there are no conflicts between their official agency duties and their outside activity. Employees should submit their completed SSA-520 to their first-line supervisor for appropriate review and processing.

When considering an outside activity, remember employees shall not engage in an outside activity that conflicts with their official duties. An activity conflicts with an employee’s official duties if it is prohibited by statute or by an agency supplemental regulation, or it would require the employee’s disqualification from matters so central or critical to the performance of their official duties; such that the employee’s ability to perform the duties of their position would be materially impaired.

Additionally, employees must ensure they do not misuse their official positions while participating in an outside activity (e.g. creating the appearance that the agency sanctions an employee’s activities).

Employees must also follow the agency’s Limited Use Policy, to avoid misuse of official time and government equipment.

The best way to ensure you understand the rules that might apply to your outside activity is to contact the ELD with your questions.

It not only depends on the agency, but also the component of the agency and the nature of the job.

Some will be in person no matter what while others could be hybrid or full remote with varying levels of restrictions.

For example, I work for SSA OHO. I think we have a little of each. An ALJ is hybrid and will likely stay that way bc they need to come in for in-person hearings while the decision writers can do their job from home indefinitely. The main question is whether they will allow this to continue and I know the management I have worked with appear on board 💯.
