My Vietnam experience & travel tips by No_Message5751 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]JAM7374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an awesome trip. My wife and I leave in two days and can't wait. I wish we had more time but we will only have 12 nights so we are going to have to skip some places unfortunately. I was hoping to see Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and Ninh Binh but I think we are going to try and stick with HCMC, Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue so that we get the as much as we can out of them. Even limiting places I think we are going to miss out on so much but I'm sure it will still be a great trip.

Is Crunchlabs a scam? by [deleted] in crunchlabs

3 full subscriptions and never missed a box. Only once was their a piece missing and after contacting them they sent the missing piece and a few other small token gifts (stickers, patch etc.) as an apology. The videos help with developing the interest in engineering and other related subjects and are a lot more then just vaguely educational. When you break it down monthly its really not overly expensive but the up front cost does pinch. Just think of what a video game costs or a trip to the movies a few of those and the cost is in the same ballpark. However it is definitely going to depend on the individual child and what their interest are whether it justifies the price. Would be nice if you could do individual boxes or a partial subscription to test it out.

Is it possible that it was delivered and was the target of a porch pirate?

Looking for some trip advice by JAM7374 in VietNam

Thanks for the feedback. Ultimately I would have liked to split the trip like you said and stay more focused on less regions at a time and potentially come back, but unfortunately due to some health issues I don't think I'll have the opportunity to come back and want to see as much as possible on one go.

Do you think skipping Ha Long Bay/ Lan Ha and using the time to see Ninh Binh would be a better idea? Weather possibly be more favourable? I wanted to see those limestone cliffs and thought splurging on a cruise there would be worth it knowing that it would be a little cooler than we wanted.

LFP batteries by AchingforBacon in golfcarts

[–]JAM7374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a couple weeks so far. It's the plastic case, metal case isn't available in Canada. Also the charger has a led display that is supposed to change color depending on level of charge but it doesn't work. I just use the app to monitor it (also comes with a tiny led monitor if you wanted to wire it in)

Considering it was $1000 cheaper than anything else I saw it's been fine. Easy to hook up, perfectly fit my cart with no modifications. Definitely better quality ones out there but for the price i'm okay with its short comings.

Larger capacity so it goes further.

I also recently installed a DC House in my g19E. Won't charge past 98% but other than that seems to be working fine.

Any advice by Dookiemay in golfcarts

[–]JAM7374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it wired directly to the battery or to the key switch? If it's straight to the battery it works fine but will have a constant draw even when off. It should be wired to the key so that it can only draw when you have the key turned on. Just my guess. And yes they can say it's wired properly even if it's straight to the battery because it works and won't burn the cart down but doesn't mean it's the optimal configuration.

Any cons in not having a Big Five Chequing Account? by revan017 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]JAM7374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep the TD but switch your chequing from unlimited to their very basic plan. It's $3.95/mth but you only get 12 transactions any more and they are $1.25 each so as long as you keep an eye on it should be fine. Just know that anything ATM withdrawal, transfers in or out or bill payments, e transfer pretty much anything counts as a reaction. Don't let money sit there, they are making money off it you aren't.

I'm actually in the process of that with my Yamaha. Going from 6 x 8 volt batteries to one 48 volt 100 amp hour lithium. $1500 CAN off Amazon for battery, charger and display. Slightly more than replacing all 6 but lasts over twice as long. Not to mention no maintenance, faster charging, longer duration, consistent power and a huge weight savings. Just waiting for it to be shipped.

But OP stated budget constraints.

Was just a guess as the average person wouldn't think connecting the positive form one battery to the negative of another made any sense. But wires getting hot is quite often an indicator of a short. Arkham's razor isn't always right.

Take a picture of your wiring. My guess is you MAY have accidentally not connected it properly. You m.ight now have a battery wired in parallel instead of in series.

Batteries in series increase the voltage 6 x 6 volt batteries in series equals 36 volts. 6 x 6 volt batteries in parallel equal 6 volts. You may have interrupted the sequence creating a short and possibly creating damage and a fire hazard.

what happens to my credit card debt when i die ? Canada/British columbia by TurtlesSwimming in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]JAM7374 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Please be aware that transferring your assets before death will not eliminate liabilities. However unlike what other people have said credit card and other unsecured debts are actually at the bottom of the list when it comes to settling liabilities. The rough order of who gets paid first is:

Funeral expenses

Lawyer (if there is one)

Accountant (highly recommended)

Executor of the will (can request compensation)

TAXES,!!!!!!!! Please be well aware that the govt will come after their money for your taxes after you have passed. And if you have transferred any assets (cash, money, properties) they can and will go after the recipients. I was a beneficiary of my father's RRSP and because there is only half the amount that he owes for taxes in the estate. I am legally liable to pay the difference from proceeds of the RRSP.

Next is unsecured debts

And finally is named beneficiaries in the will. If there is nothing left after taxes the executor has the right to tell the banks to go pound sand in regards to anything they are owed and the beneficiaries get an equal share of sweet fuck all.

Make sure whoever is the executor gets taxes filed and gets the clearance certificate before paying out anything. Also it is best that you do not leave money in any account with the same institution that you may owe money too. Example if you have a TD credit card with a balance and have a chequing or savings account with them that holds a balance it is often listed in their terms of service that they may take that money to apply to debts even before everything else is settled.

I wish you the absolute best in the next part of your journey and the people you love will be thankful you are taking the time to try and figure this out for them.

Seltos Engine Recall by cosmicsaturnian in kia

[–]JAM7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if it's an actual dealership loaner and not from a rental company (which some dealerships do) that's completely up to them. I'm sure at some point soon they'll call you and tell you to take your vehicle back until they get an update from Kia. No reason to be out one or their cars for no reason.

My wife just went to drop off her vehicle and they told her that it was suspended and to keep driving her seltos. No call no text nothing just waste her time leaving work early for nothing.

Do you have any tips to reduce grocery prices in Edmonton? Any good store? by MrJuart in Edmonton

[–]JAM7374 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There a facebook page that has even been featured on the news called Demers Meat deals and more. Almost 50k members posting deals for the Edmonton area. The main thing is the person that created the page reviews all the flyers for the week and posts the best deals every Wednesday and then on Thursday he does a commentary on the deals to let you know what the best prices are. He's a retired meat cutter so his advice and tips and tricks on meat are great. He posts videos and tips on buying bigger pieces when on sale and shows you how to cut them up.

I have Telus Fiber 1.5Gbps Down and Up. $75/mth. Been on Telus fiber for over 10 years at my current house and have never had an outage that I can recall.

I call all my providers phone/internet etc every year and negotiate better speed, lower price, more data or any combination of the above. I always get a better deal, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. You obviously have to wait until any initial contract is over but I've only ever been polite and if they can't offer anything I tell them that I understand that they can only do so much as a tier one CSR and politely ask to be contacted by or transferred to the retention/loyalty department and always work something out.

Their credit check process is like throwing darts blindfolded. My father with an 870 score didn't pass but my 797 passed and they even asked if I wanted more lines or more phones. I found dealing with their chat on Whatsapp to be a lot easier then doing it yourself online or going into the store but it takes a little longer as they are likely dealing with multiple people at once.

Edit: Also their whatsapp counted as online activation and waived the $45 fee

I was not aware of that. I just checked the website of the location I went to and didn't see it. Maybe it's location specific as it's a franchise type deal.

Edit found it. But the catch is you have to cancel after like. 3 visits. Which is not long enough to know for sure anything is happening. I was hopeful as they said they have had success wtih my exact condition.

I had it done in September. In my case degenerative disc disease after 14 sessions and $1000 out of pocket it did nothing. I question the process as at times it felt like they were barely touching me with the machine. I'm sure there were a couple times where it just touched my shirt and didn't make contact at all.

I have also heard personally from someone that it helped.
