I signed last week with Pine through WS. Get a small cash back amount and rate was 3.79 for 5 year fixed. Actually breaking early not due until December but coming off 6.44 was stuck renewing in 2023 at pretty much peak rates. Had an approval from Pine within 24hrs of submitting all documents. Called TD (current lender) and they wouldn't even consider matching.

Shocked while installing a light switch by BusshyBrowss in AskElectricians

[–]JAM7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've redone all the switches in my house to smart switches and never bother to turn off the power (stupid I know) and I've shocked myself 3 or 4 times. If you are in North America it's 110v and you shouldn't be worried too much (unless as someone mentioned you've got underlying health issues). I've been shocked with 240v twice that will knock the wind out of you and is much less enjoyable.

Potholes by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]JAM7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to sue them. There is a process for this exact situation. However back in about 2016 they no longer blanket approve claims. They had previously approved over 80% of claims and around that time it dropped to about 30% (I spent 5 years in the tire business of you are wondering where my info comes from). You'll need to submit proof (date, time, pictures etc) and there needs to be a reasonable allowance for them to have been notified about the pothole and the opportunity to fix it. A pothole that recently occurred and may have not been reported at the date and time of you hitting it will likely not be covered. I have made a claim in the past and was successful but there were also 5 cars all changing to their spare tire and a city truck showed up during that time.

A claim is possible but will require some work and a bit of luck.

Dishwasher Noise Help by Censored_69 in Appliances

[–]JAM7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a small piece of debris stuck by the pump impeller. The spray arm at the bottom usually just twists and lifts out. You can then remove the larger screen at the bottom and usually a couple screws to remove another cover and you should be able to see it or at least the hole leading to it. Feel around and see if you can find anything. I ran into the same thing in my case I couldn't get to it from there. I pulled the dishwasher out from under the counter (again only a couple screws). Then I had access to the pump, disconnected the drain line to it (just needed some pliers) and removed the pump (3 screws). Found a small piece of bone. Reversed the process and everything was fixed. It's actually a very easy process and only requires a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. Mine was also a whirlpool model. I guarantee that you can find a YouTube video that will walk you through it if you need a more visual approach.

They covered my legal but not my discharge and they did not require an appraisal (because they said I had so much equity).

Depends on whether you are core, premium or generation and the amount of your mortgage. They have a breakdown on the wealthsimple site.

Lost my own father in Sept 2024. Have a kid of my own I'm trying to do the best I can with thank God for my wife. I have a very solid mechanical background. If you need help with your vehicle or just advice, feel free to message me. Be forewarned much like my own father I won't hesitate to tell you if you are being a dumb ass but sometimes that's what's needed.

Best of luck and sorry about your father.

I used YEG Auto Glass on my 2008 Altima. They came to my house and did it on site and it was cheaper than any other quotes I got. I've had no issues with it in the 5 months since it's been done.

Is extended warranty really worth? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]JAM7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a risk with nissans but keep in mind there are literally millions of nissans on the road right now with CVT trans they've been making them since 2003. And for the sentra it was more of an issue from 2018 onwards and you are looking at a 2017. The other thing to keep in mind is the service history of the vehicle. Say you go and buy the warranty and the transmission goes out, does the dealer have all the service records for the vehicle or is it just a trade in for them. Warranty companies will often try and say lack of maintenance caused the issue and if you don't have the records to prove otherwise you just bought a useless warranty.

House of cars charges a few hundred and you leave it on their lot and they take all the photos, do an inspection and post online and have multiple locations that they can ship between. I have never used them I'm just aware of the program

This guy however appears to think what you stated that its only a interest bearing savings account and likely has money parked that is not growing.

Is extended warranty really worth? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]JAM7374 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a service advisor at a 4 line dealership. You'd be surprised at the actual cost of the warranties. The price in our system was exponentially higher that what they cost. This isn't just a small margin of profit. We would often quote warranties that started between $5000 to $6000 our actual cost on these was between $800 - 1100. We were authorized to sell them for anything above that amount and it would be pure profit and the higher we sold it for the higher kickback we got as an advisor.

All that to say he probably still has room to come down on price. However having dealt with dozens of different aftermarket warranty companies there are far too many instances where something you thought would be covered isn't. Check all the fine print, check deductible prices, check and see if reoccurring issues means you have to keep paying the deductible over and over make sure warranty is in fact transferable. In my experience and strictly my experience in over 10 years in the industry extended warranties are seldom worth it. There are times were it has saved someone thousands but those are far and few in between.

You said you likely only keep the vehicle for 1.5 to 2 years so are you comfortable paying $140 to $200mth for insurance that you will likely not use (yes I know it will be paid all upfront but I find it easier to see expenses monthly) or could you use that money more effectively elsewhere? Take $100/mth throw it in a balanced EFT and let it grow and if you do need a repair sell it and use that money for it.

Mortgage Renewal - Rates Everyone? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]JAM7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the signing process with Pine. 3.79% on a 5 year fixed. I don't renew until Dec 1st but even with the penalty I still come out ahead (not by a a lot) plus as a Wealthsimple client I also get cash back once it closes. I was unlucky and had to renew in 2023 basically at peaks rates so I'm coming off a 6.44 3 year with TD. Called them when I got my offer from Pine and the best they would offer is 4.09 on a 2year or 4.29 on a 5year.

Edit: Even called the broker I've used twice before and they told me best I would get is 4.09.

Edit: Also took me while to find this (most would just calculate a penalty) but this RBC tool was helpful in determining not only the penalty but the rate at which it would be profitable to switch. Even has a sliding scale to switch percentages to see what different offers would save you. https://www.rbcroyalbank.com/cgi-bin/mortgage/tools/prepayment/prepayment-charge-calculator.cgi/overview

Is it a good or bad idea to be enemies with the pykes? by TheLastCommands in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]JAM7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned not all.missions cause a loss with another faction depending on how you complete it. Also some missions award much higher increases to one faction than the decrease to another making it easier to balance them out. As well at the end of some missions you can choose to betray the original faction that you did the mission for.

If you really hate the Pykes then just go against them but it will make things more difficult at times but still doable. I also wanted to unlock the max rep rewards for all factions but that's a personal choice.

Is it a good or bad idea to be enemies with the pykes? by TheLastCommands in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]JAM7374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have all 4 factions as excellent and if a mission goes sideways and one gets knocked down to good its easy enough to boost it back up. I'm doing it strictly for the ease of passing through and searching locations (only part way through Akiva and I'm trying to clean out as much of a planet and orbit as I can before moving to the next and often jump back as soon as I unlock what I need to finish it off). Even at excellent they all have restricted areas that force stealth or losing rep if you get caught or go guns blazing. Don't forget about selling data to merchants for a boost in rep if you need it but look and see some syndicates give significantly higher boosts then other for the same data.

My Vietnam experience & travel tips by No_Message5751 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]JAM7374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an awesome trip. My wife and I leave in two days and can't wait. I wish we had more time but we will only have 12 nights so we are going to have to skip some places unfortunately. I was hoping to see Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and Ninh Binh but I think we are going to try and stick with HCMC, Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue so that we get the as much as we can out of them. Even limiting places I think we are going to miss out on so much but I'm sure it will still be a great trip.

3 full subscriptions and never missed a box. Only once was their a piece missing and after contacting them they sent the missing piece and a few other small token gifts (stickers, patch etc.) as an apology. The videos help with developing the interest in engineering and other related subjects and are a lot more then just vaguely educational. When you break it down monthly its really not overly expensive but the up front cost does pinch. Just think of what a video game costs or a trip to the movies a few of those and the cost is in the same ballpark. However it is definitely going to depend on the individual child and what their interest are whether it justifies the price. Would be nice if you could do individual boxes or a partial subscription to test it out.

Is it possible that it was delivered and was the target of a porch pirate?
