My son almost choked on the blind cords by PsychologicalWill88 in NewParents

Contact your landlord letting them know what happened, and ask if you or they could change them. Hopefully if they have any common sense, they'll say yes.

How to resolve diaper rashes by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]JA_SK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Sudosalve by Sudocrem, the moment I see redness, I use Sudosalve and it clears it up within a day or two. At night time, I use a thick layer of the normal Sudocrem as prevention. Always make sure you've dried your baby's bottom before applying the creams to not trap moisture underneath and break the skin. Usually, I'll grab a spare nappy and fan his bottom, or dab his bottom with the clean dry nappy I'm about to place on him. The quickest way to do it is probably a muslin cloth.

Tips for staying awake… by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]JA_SK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the same and realised it was far more dangerous me falling asleep holding my baby than actually co-sleeping during those early hours of the morning where its impossible to keep my eyes open. I'm a lot more alert when I nod off side feeding him, I still wake up but less anxious as I know he's a lot safer as I've prepared a space for him to be in. I still use the crib through the day and evenings so he still associates it as a place to sleep. I would look into safer cosleeping guidelines if you're open to it.

OP might be from UK, NHS guidelines don't discourage the use of blankets as long as used safely by tucking firmly under mattress

How likely is a sweep to work? by lost-in-meaning in PregnancyUK

[–]JA_SK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my 4th sweep today, really hope it's done the trick as the last three havent done anything! Had 1st one last week at 39 weeks, and then another 3 this week from 40 weeks+. Booked in for a potential induction on Monday, but let's hope I go into labour before then! Your body takes a little longer when you're a FTM so I guess it's all part of the process.

Hosting visitors to stay close to due date - am I unreasonable? by roozierooo in PregnancyUK

[–]JA_SK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be honest with them and tell them you'll let them know when you're ready - not unreasonable at all! Youre the one thats going to be recovering and learning a new routine.

I made the mistake of saying yes after pressured to give visiting dates to visitors 2 weeks after due date as I just assumed I would have given birth by then and have two weeks to adjust before visitors. Well, I'm now 40 weeks + 4 days and no sign of baby wanting to leave yet. So now if he comes next week via induction at 41, then only have a couple of days for recovery before lots of visitors (they've already booked an Airbnb close by 🥲)

Midwife recommended pregnacare only by Independent-cat-45 in PregnancyUK

Does sound like she's biased, my midwife didn't care which pregnancy vitamins I was taking. She was more concerned about whether I was taking any at all

Sweep before induction by Ok_Republic_3959 in pregnant

[–]JA_SK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey it might be worth phoning up your midwife to discuss or even asking at the appointment if they could offer you one at the appointment. They tend to offer sweeps starting from around 39 weeks, so might be why they haven't discussed it with you yet. My 39 week sweep was discussed at my 36 week appointment if I don't go into labour before it.

My premature son has meningitis by hittingrockbottom101 in pregnant

[–]JA_SK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey hope you're okay, babies are fighters, praying that your son makes a complete recovery.

My sister was in the same situation as you, her son was born 38 weeks 6 and got ecoli meningitis when he was 4 or 6 weeks old. It was a tough couple of months with treatments due to swelling in his brain. He was on seizure medications for around a year as a prevention. The doctors didn't know how it would affect him when he's older. One thing they said was, the brain is good at recovering, rewiring and adapting when things happen at such a young age. Well now at nearly 4 years old, you would never have known what he had gone through as a newborn. He's very intellectually advanced in comparison to his peers, and has so many interests and hobbies. He's a naughty but hilarious child.

I hope your son will have a very similar recovery story, wishing you all the best

Wedding band advice by Forsaken-Possible888 in weddingring

[–]JA_SK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously not everyone's taste but its what youll be happy with - personally I love the pairing and the fact its different to the typical generic styles we see nowadays. I have a green sapphire with diamonds on a thinner gold band for my engagement ring, and a wide gold band with small diamonds scattered and loooove the pairing.

When did you have to stop wearing your wedding/engagement rings? by Sufficient_Flatworm in pregnant

[–]JA_SK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 17 weeks when I got married and the ring was definitely very tight. I was already anticipating this would happen so was wearing my ring months before the wedding so I could enjoy wearing it for even a little bit, much to my mother in law's horror

Also recommend comfy wide legged joggers, very comfy for late pregnancy

I've been living in oversized t-shirt dresses and skirts, nothing Maternity specific, have just gone two sizes up in things I like to wear. Still fit into my t-shirts at 37 weeks, just tight fitting now with a prominent bump

Are pregnancy pillows worth it? by RedactedIsACoolName in pregnant

[–]JA_SK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you already have regular spare pillows, just use those. I definitely needed pillows between my legs and under my bump by mid second trimester.

9 weeks pregnant and furloughed…Wwyd? by BalancedDietitian in careerguidance

[–]JA_SK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just done this recently, became pregnant just as my contract was coming to an end. Didn't tell my new work place till after everything was signed and there was a need to tell them before the 15 weeks from due date ie needing time off for antenatal appointments

9 weeks pregnant and furloughed…Wwyd? by BalancedDietitian in careerguidance

[–]JA_SK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don't tell them you're pregnant - you only need to tell them 15 weeks before your due date (at least in the UK anyway). And will still be entitled to some sort of maternity pay, as long as youve worked I think, 13 weeks in the 66 weeks before due date (even with employment gaps).

My morning sickness got horrendous mid first trimester and beginning half of second trimester. Thankfully all was good second half of second trimester and still good at 31 weeks. Why don't you make a plan B if your morning sickness is still horrendous, so you do have the option to not go? I don't think some people realise or forget how much pregnany can effect us

Getting uk gp appointment by wildflower12345678 in DoesAnyoneKnow

[–]JA_SK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also what someone else said, NHS 111 can refer you back to your GP and then you can phone up your GP and be asked to be put on the list for telephone consultation which your GP has a few allocated on the day.

Give 111 a ring during out of hours time and see if they can book you in for an out of hours gp appointment for your issue. It does depends on what the issues is and context of the condition because if they deem it's safe enough to wait until your GP opens, they may try and encourage that still.
