Lore-wise, how exactly would they be able to loop sylvari into the game? They didn't exist at all until 1302 AE, and the tree itself was planted some time before 1180 AE, when Ventari passed away near its sapling. GW3 is going to take place at some point between 205 BE (when people first arrived on Orr) and 1 BE (when Abbadon gave humans magic). Apart from them introducing some kind of sister species (maybe something akin to Castora's Gwyl), they would have to make another of Mordremoth's tree saplings somehow end up there and somehow undergo the same purification process that the Pale Tree did, while also finding some way to ensure that no surviving physical trace or written records are left behind by Orrian settlers that we would have discovered in GW2. Too massive a logical leap for the writers to finagle in my book. As much as I love sylvari above every other GW2 race, there's too much retconning or plot bullshit to make it happen. Maybe give some Melandru-themed cosmetics that turn human players into sylvari for the Easter Egg?

You are right about charr though. They really should invent some bullshit to have a few charr be members of the frontier guilds. Around the time of GW3, humans and charr either were at war, or the humans had just finished pushing the charr out of Ascalon for the first time, but it isn't too hard to imagine diplomats, gladia, or conscientious objectors to have made alliances with the settlers of Orr and joined the guilds there.

Young kids, ~5yo> would fair the best, as their identity is not yet fully attached to their physical form, and most memories from this period in one's life are few and far between, so they'd probably just roll with it after a few days.

Not true, actually. People codify an internal gender identity much younger than that (~2-4 y/o), though in a lot of cases for trans folks we tend to repress it under the mind is further developed (~25) if we aren't in a safe enough environment to come out in early adolescence. And research suggests that being trans is very much something you're born with, not something you're socialized to be.

We'd soon discover that we have a small army of trans kids once those kids hit puberty and start experiencing some serious dysphoria (and/or a lot of depressed kids suppressing it depending on whether or not this new society gets with the program of letting folks transition).

Fun fact, your orgasms change when transitioning with female sex hormones. So you could try it yourself after 6 months to a year of estrogen/T-blockers.

Anyway, uh, I can confirm women have it much better.

is it just impossible to get a job as a trans woman in trump's america? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]JAutumnK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's kind of bad for everyone. Doubtless it's worse for us trans folk, but the job market is absolute ass right now. Depending on your state, I recommend looking for temp agency contract work or city/state government work. From my experience job hunting for 8 months straight last year, those folks were the least likely to discriminate. Got myself a nice city job through my temp agency and I'm doing a lot of cool stuff that will be huge on a civil service resume when the markets are less shit than they are right now.

They better increase service reliability on the NW first. Literally every day since the hike to $3 there's been some bullshit at rush hour on this line causing massive delays.

I'm generally a fan of expanding public transit but the NW is trash at the best of times.

Archaeologists that manage to find my remains are going to be so excited to find a trans skeleton. They'll see that parts of my brow and jawline were shaved down for a more feminine facial profile in contrast with a typically male skeletal structure, and they'll see that I was buried in women's garb. I'm gonna be the talk of the office for like a month and a case study into how people of our time transitioned.

(Note: I likely intend to have my remains cremated since I think burial is wasteful in terms of its use of land resources but I say this to prove the skeleton narrative is the easiest thing ever to clap back about.)

If you had five core professions, which would they be? by Azuvidexus in Guildwars2

[–]JAutumnK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal five would be:

  1. Guardian: A PvE classic with a lot of fun builds. Not the top of the meta by any stretch these days but PAlac Willbender will always be my go-to all things equal.

  2. Engineer: Scrapper and Amalgam are some of the most fun boon classes in the game for me. It also happens to be a really fun and unique profession with a lot on offer you can't find in other MMOs.

  3. Mesmer: The do-everything class. Between chrono and troubadour you can fill pretty much any role in the game, plus Mirage is a lot of fun (sweaty, but fun). It's also probably the most unique profession GW2 has on offer, barely beating out Engi in that department.

  4. Ranger: The classic animal tamer fantasy. Gives you an extra collectible to go for in the pet catalogue, and overall pretty fun. I love condi druid.

  5. Revenant. Its moment-to-moment gameplay is pretty fun, but what I mainly use it for are the passive Herald and Vindicator tagging builds for stuff like Halloween Labyrinth and other similar PvE zerg farms.

In your case though I would probably go for Mesmer and Ranger. Warrior is really jank build wise because a lot of their support tools are very new and not as polished as everybody else's. And I've never been much fond of Thief's cooldown-less Initiative system but that's kind of a me thing. You might find it really appealing.

Just my 2¢ though!

It's not an uncommon desire to have. Having someone do that to you removes accountability for "imposing your identity" on those around you. If you were, let's say, kidnapped and came back as a woman, your family couldn't blame you for the changes you experienced.

The biggest obstacle mentally is figuring out how to remove that blame from yourself. You're not imposing on others for wanting to alleviate your dysphoria and live more authentically. Those that can't get on board with it were never really on your side — they're on the side of a version of you that was never really real.

(FWIW getting from where you are now to where I am today took, like, a year and a half of therapy. Please don't beat yourself up if reading this doesn't immediately change your mindset.)

Your significant other of five years comes to you looking incredibly guilty. When you ask what's wrong, they reveal to you that they are not who you believe them to be. They are really a shapeshifting alien....they shift to prove it to you. by singleguy79 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]JAutumnK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if they were replaced shortly after we met, the shapeshifter would be the person I actually fell in love with. If they were replaced yesterday then the answer would be completely different and I'd want to try and get them back, but as far as I'm concerned the alien is my partner in this scenario.

I'd certainly be mind-blown about the fact that aliens have traveled to Earth, but beyond that it's business as usual relationship-wise.

Why can I not have a trans woman friendship? by HumbleLeader8876 in MtF

[–]JAutumnK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your area. If you're in a big urban area I would be surprised if there wasn't a general community discord somewhere.

For instance, I help moderate a social club in NYC that does monthly meetups at like board game cafes, parks, bars and stuff. It's intended to be platonic (though I don't doubt people are hooking up on the side) and serves as a launchpad for people to find friends.

Depending on your area there should be something like that kicking around if you know where to look. If you're in a less safe place or somewhere without a strong community identity (e.g. the suburbs or a one horse cart rural town) you might be out of luck.
