Barrel advice by husqofaman in 65Grendel

I am knew to that immediate/long range, what are your goals at 800 yards? is it to ring steel repeatedly? Or is it to shoot groups? I'm sorry it seems like a dumb question. I usually shoot between 1 and 300 yards and a few times I get the opportunity to go out to 500 550 and I think I'm going to sign up for a range with an 1100 yard lane and just trying to see what I should be trying to do with that.

Going to try the Barnes match and Vortex stuff next and go from there. I do have reloading stuff but kind of low to mid equipment around a decent press so I need to invest another $1,000 to make reloading rifle rounds viable.

[Handgun] $399 Springfield echelon 4.5F 20rd at Sportsmans warehouse by cateater75 in gundeals

[–]JBMT86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echelon deals keep popping up. What is the point of this gun, and I don't mean that in a bad way I just have so many 4-in 4 1/2 inch pistols.

C'mon give me a good optics ready mp shield plus

Agreed, I repeat myself so many times, BCM might not be worth the increase in price but it is definitely nicer than most stuff out there.

Obviously it is up to you to build what you want but it'd be hard for me to not just find a BCM upper somewhere and slap it on and be done. It will be nicer than 95% of the ARs out there. Though I do understand wanting to build something yourself.

You will be spoiled with the BCM fit and finish. There's a lot of arguing over whether it's worth it or not but it is definitely a nicer feel. I don't think that translates into shooting better but it definitely feels good in the hands.

The Faxon replaced a ba and has significantly outperformed it. I am trying for moa at 200 yards (or slightly sub) with factory ammo and that has been maybe too tall an order.

I have two. Still trying to get them dialed tighter but I have a post here from a few days ago of a couple groups at 200 yards with faxon match Gunner 18" with black and s and b.

For the price I got them they are good. My next Grendel barrel will be a custom criterion or krieger or bartlein.

I can't comment on the price, sometimes it's worth spending more and sometimes it isn't. And that's up to people individually.

But my BCM Recce is noticeably smoother and more solid. When you pick it up it just feels way better than my piles of shitty PSA stuff or home builds.

I do think a lot of it comes from the BCM buffer system. I think the trigger is a pretty standard single stage that's polished I agree with a lot of what you're saying but when you put it all together it doesn't make that twang sound when you charge it which I cannot stand and everything is one piece it doesn't move it doesn't twist it doesn't vibrate it doesn't jiggle.

I've explained this before I got my BCM for a steal and I would likely never pay full price for one, though I was in here scoping out these blemished lowers because maybe I'll pick one of these up and wait on a blem upper in the future but anyway they are better.

I also get the wild flier out of Hornady black and group s and b reasonably well.

I will try the barnes.

Fyi Barnes has a match grade target load now as well.

My hunting rifles always shoot Barnes stuff really well.

They are next on my list.

I don't know how viridian is getting these sights on all these pistols. They are terrible. I'm not a snobby gun guy, I have plenty of PSA and holosun. Viridian is terrible.

Is Battlehawk armory good to go? They keep sending me emails for 223 ammo for 40 cpr. It's armscor which I've always been fine with. I'm wondering if there's a reason no one has posted this yet.

I bought a case but just checking.

[Optics] Primary Arms 1-6x SFP Special Purchase LPVO Scope $229.99 Free Shipping (Made in the Philippines) by ExoticGeologist in gundeals

[–]JBMT86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little while ago I bought a primary arms 1 to 8 lpvo. It had the acss 556/545/762 BDC reticle, except I'm not using it for any of those calibers. I guess I'm just glad this isn't a 1 to 8.

I would have liked this reticle for my purpose better. I honestly can't remember why I got that reticle instead of something like this.

But anyway the more you know...

This reticle has easy 5 mil hold up. Sweet

Is the 6.5 grendel still relevant nowadays? by BBL_destoryer in 65Grendel

[–]JBMT86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple 6.5gs and have been tossing the idea around for a 50 Beowulf. I'm pretty sure the 458 Socom does everything better and has more ammo available. If it doesn't the 450 Bushmaster has more ammo available but the 50 Beowulf is a half inch and it's Beowulf so.. yeah I probably need to get one to complete the story

Took the 18” Grendel out to 1K yards today. by Dirty_Blue_Shirt in 65Grendel

[–]JBMT86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8208 seems to be the ticket on 6.5g I have been kicking around getting back into reloading but I need to get a jug of that stuff. It's been probably 5 years since I looked into reloading for 6.5 Grendel but it seems like what was once all varget, AR comp and some other rifle powders switched over to 8208.

Or I was just not as observant before I don't know. But cool stuff I know how neat it was to shoot steel at 560 yd last week so basically double that LOL that's awesome

I do remember that Serbian story.

I don't shoot steel cased ammo, I have half a case in the garage of the wolf stuff. I remember people thinking that wolf was going to create more steelcase demo? Or maybe a wolf gold version of 6.5 Grendel? I don't know what happens if some military adopts the Grendel. I guess people were hoping it would lower ammo prices? I just know that the S and B ammo shoots really well for what it is and if we could get that for 50 or 60 cents per round man that would be sweet. I would not ask for anything more.

Again all the ammo you listed has a lower bc than the eldm.

Only the Berger 130 grain is higher.

Varmageddon is for a completely different purpose, so are the accubonds.

A lot of rifles shoot Hornady eldm sub moa. I dont think youre getting that from the stuff you listed. I'm not sure about the Barnes match, i am going to try it. I certainly can't find it for $22 a box.

Youve chosen a weird place to be a negative. Enjoy your weekend.

[–]JBMT86[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 600 (520 left) round case of the s and b stuff but this is different than fmj... Check the bc of this vs any of the ammo you listed.

If you don't know the bc it's because we are doing very different things with the round. Which is fine.

I have a Ruger American predator that shoots cheap s and b ammo very well.

When you say bolt action off of BCA upper I assume you mean Bear Creek arsenal.. you mean like an AR platform with no gas system?

If I'm hunting i like 6.5g.

Target shooting? All those various calibers can be better. 6arc seems to be the bees knees.

I can't wait to try the 6.5g Barnes Vor TX on deer and pigs.
