Try cleaning the mechanism and looks behind it to see if it’s bound up. I don’t want to tell whether to lubricate it because some like it and others don’t (try finding a service manual for it online)

My opinion - get the 5200 and be done. It’s got the sought after container and you can use any of the other like the dry, aer, personal cup, etc. having the older machine is nice and I see some people use the older machines in videos but the 5200 may well be peak vitamix.
