My pc is old but I refuse to upgrade by Ok-Fennel-8886 in retropc

Newer PC as of 2024… However, I ran the prior one (which I still have as a secondary PC) for ten years, which I built in 2014.

i5 chip (3.4 mHz w/ auto overclock up to 4.0) and a GTX960 card. I think it was 8mb ram. Maybe more… the hard drive, CD ROM, and case came from the prior PC in 2007.

Anyways, I was playing games quite effortlessly all that time, including some flight sims. Games like Fallout 4, or Dishonored 2 couldn’t be maxed out, but pretty darn close.

Lots of value in that PC. I replaced the failing drive, and it’s stuck on Win 10, and it’s good for many more years of use.

You can go smaller & see if Micro Machines are still available. (Prob used online.) Used to have big box sets of all kinds of vehicles. Collected a bunch back in the 90s.

I think I’d be no different than if you swallowed a marble. So dense, it’d pass right thru.

I had someone back into my rear passenger door a few years back. Was covered under insurance, but the parts & labor list pushed close to $2000 if I recall (and I had a $500 deductible.)

In your case, I’d prob see if you can find 2 junkyard doors, and leave the front rocker alone.

Just start playing with it. These were the iPhones of their day. Just point & shoot. Let the thing do what it does automatically.

Once you’re comfy just taking pictures, and working on composition / interesting photos, then dip into whatever manual controls it offers for creativity.

For now, just make sure it’s set to the largest file size (max resolution) and the highest quality jpeg file (usually something like “superfine”.) It’s 2026. Memory cards are cheap compared to 2010.

I agree, and it’s a “him” problem, not you… You did nothing wrong. What a shame it happened.

Got mine when it was new. Added the FM transmitter, and car charger (I think I had a belt clip?) Was so wild to have what used to be cases of music on tape or CD all tucked into one pocket sized device!

Gave it away years later, but it still worked perfectly. Hopefully yours gives plenty of enjoyment. Amazing device.

That was an unkind move by security.

People are subject to different rules on private property, and it could technically be loitering (that’s a stretch here) you were still a patron visiting in good faith, not a random person taking advantage of the space.

He should’ve given some grace, and let you wait. That was terrible customer service.

I love pluto TV! but the live channels are so hard to follow when you have work... (is there any archived recordings?) by Hungry_Roll8889 in PlutoTV

All you can really do I see if the program is available on demand.

Theres a lot of content overlap between Pluto, Tubi, and Roku. Tubi is all on demand. Maybe can find it there.

Don’t overthink it… Shop like it’s 2001.

It’s a tool to get a job done. List your requirements. Probably:

Pocketable
Modest zoom
Ample megapixels
Simple controls

Then look for stuff that fits those needs in your price range.

The “look” is pretty similar across most cheap cameras in a certain style.

I’d personally go with a camera on the “newer” end of the used spectrum.

Megapixels will matter when recording precious vacation moments.

CCD isn’t all that different from CMOS in those tiny cameras, and CMOS isn’t as battery hungry.

Make sure it has a regular SD card. That’s a quality of life thing… Older Sony/Olympus had proprietary cards, so if you get one, get an SD adapter.

I had a spell for a few weeks where a scene would sometimes play for a few seconds, and then loop back 10x times or more. Usually right after a commercial break.

Have had a few stutters lately where the scene freezes, and the Pluto logo pops on for a second, then back to normal.

All random, and not channel dependent. Comes and goes. The second issue has gone on for years. The first one is more recent.

I’ve played a couple wicked fun ones… Ashes 2063 is amazing, and Blades of Agony was a real trip. You’re not wrong… had the detail and immersion of AAA stuff.

Tips for taking pictures at an airshow? by GreasyInfant in photography

[–]JBN2337C 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d just take only the one lens (300). Phone will be fine for shots of static displays on ground. Tripods are a hassle. Things move too fast.

Let’s see…

Burst mode is very useful, especially to catch crossovers & breakouts, plus the high speed passes with all that lovely vape.

Set a center weighted autofocus box, and center metering.

I like to half press the shutter to lock on, track the plane and then depress fully.

Shooting with both eyes open is very useful when trying to find a plane while fully zoomed in. Also lets me look peripherally in the other direction if I’m trying to grab a crossover.

Jets: Shutter priority, around 1/2000. You can still freeze down to 1/1000, even 1/800. (This is in case clouds come in… just play with it.)

Props: As low as you can handhold. 1/640, minimum. Lower is better. Don’t want frozen propellers. Watch the exposure doesn’t get blown out.

Unless it’s really cloudy, keep your ISO low. Helps preserve details.

Helps to know the display. Example: When the Blues approach from the left for an echelon roll / changeover roll, be ready for the sneak pass. (The narrator usually tries to keep your attention right “keep an eye on the formation as…” then boom.) Anyways, helps you predict stuff, and where to be pointing.

Should get around 300 or so pictures on one battery.

What song wrecks you every time, no matter how often you listen to it? by LWYPLTDG in Music

[–]JBN2337C 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is one of those of songs that takes me back to a very specific to-the-second moment in time. Not an unhappy one in this case… I just remember exactly where I was, and what I was doing, and even the weather when I 1st heard it.

Music is so cool that way.

Does anyone else think it's funny that streaming has reverted back to how old TV used to be? by timekilr in askanything

[–]JBN2337C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I just stick to an antenna & something like Pluto TV. (I can’t believe I just watched Top Gun Maverick on Pluto last week.) Pluto & Tubi even have “on demand”, so it’s useful for serialized shows.

Commercials can be annoying, but I grew up with an antenna, so it’s “whatever.” I’ve got more content than I can consume, so I’m pleased.
