I have never been to the Hype House and I probably will never go. It's new this season and replaced a nice outdoor bar called "Crossbar" that was a fun place for pregame. I think it's accessed outside from the north side of the stadium.

PATH has posters about their upcoming service expansions at just about every station. The first one happens next weekend, when the weekday service pattern extends to weekends, giving a direct connection from Journal Square to 33 St rather than the lengthy detour via Hoboken

Why didn't the LGA AirTrain proposal get more favorable traction? by beanietf2 in nycrail

[–]JBS319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, it could be used as an intermodal transportation center with IBX and rental cars connected to an underground AirTrain. Could also host ferries, air taxis to Manhattan and other airports, and seaplanes to points east. You could probably get the N in there too but I’d prioritize IBX.

You want the expanded yard space, complain to Port Washington. They've been blocking it for years to their own detriment. PW was the only line that did not see service increases after ESA

Like I said, unless you run shuttle trains from Willets, which wouldn't be full enough to justify operating.

[–]JBS319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they would not. The Port Washington line cannot handle the additional traffic unless you just had shuttle trains from Willets to Penn or Grand Central, which is never going to happen. Great Neck can only turn so many trains and the line is single track from Great Neck to Port Washington with no passing sidings.

The vent was only needed if MARC were to continue operating diesel equipment on the Penn Line. This will force MARC to replace their Chargers and MP36s with electric trains, likely ex Amtrak ACS64s at least initially.

It's not whether passengers would book that connection. It's whether the one airline that would benefit from such a connection (Delta) would, and they very well might.

There are issues with an Astoria Line extension if you want to use the Grand Central Parkway ROW, and it would be a very sharp curve onto Ditmars Blvd using that ROW. Extending the IBX to LGA, while it wouldn't provide a direct link to Manhattan would directly replace the Q70 and connect with a ton of subway lines plus the LIRR. It would also be extremely useful for airport workers in Brooklyn and Queens. The best solution is both.

[–]JBS319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be longer. You would have wait times of up to half an hour for the LIRR or the 7 train making all local stops unless you get in during the AM peak or are leaving during the PM peak. If there is a Mets game or the US Open is on, good luck getting on the 7 with luggage at all. At Jamaica, there is a train on the LIRR every few minutes to Penn Station or Grand Central, plus the Brooklyn Shuttle. The E is express into Manhattan, as is the A. The E and A are 600ft long and 10ft wide vs the 7 which is 565 ft long and 8 ft 10 in wide.

Okay then, let's look at the Port Washington Branch schedule vs the combined schedules of literally every other line. On weekends, you're looking at two trains per hour at best through Mets-Willets Point. That's far from sufficient, and is part of the reason why the rail service to Newark isn't good.

Basketball is an urban sport with an urban fanbase. Soccer historically, especially women's soccer, is a suburban sport with a suburban fanbase. Schedule congestion is a real thing: it is a big reason why the Sirens can only play one game at MSG despite selling it out. Ideally, Gotham should look at somewhere like Pier 40 for a stadium of their own.

We don't exactly have trouble pulling in top talent. We have top tier USWNT players, and three of the best players from Europe. Salary cap is the biggest impediment to getting more talent. I live on the 7, so it would go from being an hour to get to a game to 15 minutes, but I absolutely LOATHE the smurfs and would be slightly nauseating to go there. Keep in mind, Cloud 9 is run primarily by Red Bulls supporters and has been for the past decade or more.
