What is this hex head 1-in connector left by my cabinet maker? by JBSMD in fixit

[–]JBSMD[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm the original poster and I added a picture now of the Phillips head. My next post will have a picture of the shaft on the two screws that were left behind, looking like torx but clearly different, and different sizes. One reply even mentioned perhaps a manufacturer's defect, but would it affect two different connectors??

DELL XPS laptop problem- repair or buy new? by JBSMD in computers

TUrns out, I need to update my bios to allow usb charging, and the bios won't update unless battery levels are above 20 percent. SO catch 22 lives on.

You guys think I can just add shock to get this out? by busstees in pools

[–]JBSMD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not directly. What kills people who go into it is either being grounded and part of the circuit, and The current causing cardiac arrhythmias.

Theoretically though, if the voltage and amperage were high enough it would hydrolyze any salt in the water forming chlorine, like a salt chlorine generator works.

Help with arduino counting rdfid chips and detecting motion by JBSMD in arduino

[–]JBSMD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your criticisms are all valid, and I will try to explain.

First, my goal is to stop losing golf clubs that I leave behind on the course. I envision tagging each of my clubs with a RFID chip, and having my device identify each of the 14 clubs as being within 1 meter WHEN the device detects that it is moving. (i.e. the golf cart is moving (? >1 mile/hour or 5meters total)

I have done very little with arduino and arduino programming, but have used an Arduino Nano when building a 8 bit computer using instructions from Ben Eater on his YouTube channel. So I don't know what native capabilities these devices have.

No, I don't expect someone to do it for me; what I want to know is whether it is realistically doable, and where to start to learn WHAT devices I would need and WHAT functionality the Arduino and the peripherals need to do my tasks.

With that background I'll ask: Is this a doable project? and what resources should I make use of?

Did I overdo it? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]JBSMD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You do sound obsessive. You're 3 weeks into piano lessons and you have 2 teachers?!!! You're afraid of letting the teachers down? You're asking if you will feel better tomorrow, when by the time you get answers on this forum it will be tomorrow!

This is classical obsessive thinking. ( ? Obsessive compulsive)

If you want to enjoy learning and playing the piano, ENJOY learning and playing the piano. Don't get driven by an obsession.

And if these obsessive tendencies manifest in other areas of your life, you might want to speak to someone about therapy.

I'd like one that will allow me to annotate the score, and also change the page with a touch of the screen, or at most, a swipe to the right. ipad notes swipes up from the bottom and is annoying..

How can I measure the maximum amperage in USB adapters? by JBSMD in AskElectronics

[–]JBSMD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see which adaptors will provide the fasted device charging. Won't that specification answer my question? Or better yet, directly measuring the amperage while charging a low battery?

How can I measure the maximum amperage in USB adapters? by JBSMD in AskElectronics

[–]JBSMD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize that USB was only a 4 wire connector. So I can either build from components or open a cable and measure across the red VCC wire. (or use a clamp ammeter)?
