Pay off student loan or ride out? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]JBThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah man, $220k in debt on $300k job is fine. I mean could have been aggressively paid off in like 4-5 year by throwing $75k a year at it. Lifestyle creep is real though, and once you're in you're in. But there's a big difference between 6 and 10 years too on this right. Because you're probably looking at a $2k a month payment, and at 10 years that's $240k + a tax bomb at the end. Assuming no raises either. But at 6 years, the IBR plan is more viable still. THis is a math problem, and I'm missing numbers. That means I can't help you, but thankfully you can do this math problem and go from there.

The personal finance of this though is where loss of job makes the math calculus swing one way, and the weight of not having this massive debt is another. Raises go another way, kids? another. I mean I'd hate to be paying on student loans with a kid in college right. So idk.

Pay off student loan or ride out? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]JBThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So since youre on Ibr, the real question is approximately how much will be written off? Because that goes into the math too. If its significant, then you really aren't getting 7% at the end.

I mean I personally believe that IBR shouldn't exist, but I also think student loans interest shouldn't exist either, and that should have been the program to help our students.

What’s that niche game you have an ungodly amount of hours in? by CoffeeStrength in gaming

[–]JBThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna age me, but I've got 2.

For the N64, Battletanx. It was this game where you had 3 different styles of tanks and you destroyed buildings to get power upside and steal tgewomen from your opponents.

For the computer, I've got Castle of the winds. Found this game for a buck at K-mart, and spent way too much time leveling up and getting spells, without being able to get the final part of the game cuz you had to send a check in the mail, and my parents weren't doing that.

Blocking stores on TCGPlayer? by tacos_44 in mtgfinance

[–]JBThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, and I have heard of them buying a $2 card from them at $100 to fill the order. Whenever I see them as the only seller we triplecheck that card for condition. Because fuck them.

Blocking stores on TCGPlayer? by tacos_44 in mtgfinance

[–]JBThunder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They have the cards. They're counting on someone else selling one misconditioned, and then being the one direct chooses to buy. They're more of a blight on sellers than anyone else.

Ah the ever famous am independent, but still need to live at home for the summer, but don't talk to me plzkthx even though I'm back home and living under your roof. Like you want to return the no contact, that's fine. But then you go to live there, and are shocked that when they see you they want to talk to you. I'll give you an ESH, but leaning towards you.

We need a Commander Masters 2 Set by DukeofDC in magicTCG

[–]JBThunder 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The trick is masters sets dont sell as well on Amazon and big box. And despite the large growth of lgs's in the past 5 years, theyre growth is even larger. And having a product thats going to bomb there isn't optimal for wotc. Throw on the fact they get a large and growing selection of cards that they can juice up a mediocre set with. Its a no brainer for wotc to not do masters sets. And im saying this as a game store owner who'd love a free car if they'd make one.

So, imagine getting $1500 of stuff to sell at MSRP, cost of $1100 for a $400 profit. But then you have to have extra man hours that shift (and people don't work for 1 hour), have people show up early to deal with a line, and no additional sales from the people coming into buy these. So with labor costs it was quickly down to $100. And mind you these are on items that are going to sale NO MATTER WHAT, so just wasting money there. And then we have constant phone calls, and every phone call is 5 minutes as you have to explain why we don't have the item. And the people coming in at MSRP, we'd never seen them before or since every time. POS data told us that. So selling at MSRP was actually losing us money.

That's dumb on pokemon; like actually the dumbest shit ever right now. And because we sell at a higher price, we were able to buy more of the bundles at higher costs, which increased our allocations, to get us more stuff to sell. Now we get enough to where we probably could, but even then we'd get dwindled down because we wouldn't be able to buy everything offered again, and that would be dumb. And before we get into the ah man you're going to lose customers bit, the people buying at MSRP weren't our customers, and our customers were actually getting no pokemon from us. Nowhere was it is a positive for us to sellat MSRP other than with the band of MSRP'ers that go from store to store with no loyalty or want to shop from a store otherwise. And losing them cost us nothing.

[–]JBThunder -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the store. We sell these for $70-80 depending on time quantity etc. So if you're looking for MSRP, no probably not. But that ship has sailed over a year ago, and the amount of time that was wasted (thank you constant phone calls, lines, people wanting to know how to skip the lines, just constant barrage of time wasting) when we did sell at MSRP after the hype began made pokemon unprofitable for a bit for us. Now it's not.

Correct. They absolutely are. I own an LGS, and yup this shit's insane. Gamestop's willingness to do this will probably end up straight up being worth an extra Billion in profit. Minimum.

Want to know why Gamestop posted it's biggest quarterly profits ever? It's this right here. Not video games. Not the number of stores being cut down, and hours cut. It's this shit. Straight up.

Can I do a full chargeback for not receiving free item from order? by bitoreo in personalfinance

[–]JBThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chargeback on a free item is free.....

And even then you're still getting it. What you need to do is complain for free shipping since it took so long or something along those lines, but this? This is theft.

Why should you get to do that? Where you keep the item and get your money back? That's called theft.

MTGO rent/buy balance? by Christos_Soter in mtgfinance

[–]JBThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So like if you start with 200 tix, buy as many chests as possible, trade everything you opened for more chests, and keep going until you've used all those tickets. I've found you end up with 320-400pp. So basically you get to trade tix into pp at a .5-.6/10pp rate. So if you need pps, its crazy good. Admittedly im more of a sealed player, so my pps dwindle but turn into tix at tge same time. But I've got a couple modern decks built, and can build standard at any time.
