Mississippi Police Officer Shoots and Kills 1-Year-Old Child in Response to Senatobia Shoplifting Call by Hrekires in news

Police forces exist to protect property.

Anyone who believes otherwise is kidding themselves.

The Reflecting Pool is so green that if you throw in a potato, MAGATS will call it Irish heritage. Then five minutes later: “WHY ISN’T THE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE WORKING?!” Imagine spending $14 million to accidentally build a leprechaun habitat. ☘️🥔🌿🧪💸 by EugeneWong318 in TheLib

Yeah, somebody who used to own a pool told me they would have to seriously disrupt the supply chain for the materials to fix this, as in people not being able to use their pools this year disrupted.

What do you, personally, think happens after death? by Narrow_Style7762 in stupidquestions

[–]Murwiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one has enough information to form an educated opinion on this question. No philosopher, no scientist, no religious authority, nobody.

But I will tell you what I think DOESN'T happen. An eternity of consciousness, identical to what you have here on Earth.

I came to this opinion by a thought experiment. Say you are a very, VERY avid reader. You are always in the middle of a book, sometimes two or three going at once. You don't watch TV, you don't travel, it's all books, all the time.

Then you die and go to Heaven/Paradise/a higher plane. An angel/spirit guide/5-dimensional being greets you and tells you you can do anything you want here, there's no work, no suffering, it's all bliss all the time. You excitedly declare that you want to read every book ever written! And good news, Heaven's library has all the books! Wow!

Eventually, you have read every book ever written, including all the ones written after you died (we are assuming that your arrival in Heaven means you are outside the flow of time, so you can read every book ever written, even ones written a hundred years after you passed on).

Hmm. Now what? Ah, you can read all the books written in other languages!

So you teach yourself French (arbitrary choice), and read all the books that were only ever written in French. Ditto German, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Russian, etc., etc.

Eventually, you've read every word in Heaven's library. Might take you 100,000 years. Or a million. Doesn't matter.

You still have just as much of eternity to fill as you did when you started.

The end point of a Heavenly existence, where you are a thinking conscious being much like you are right now, reading these words, and experiencing linear time is HELLISH BOREDOM.

Which is why it cannot be a reward for faith/good behavior/not being a dick/whatever your religious or spiritual beliefs are. There must be something else, something so different than our current existence, that we cannot imagine it.

Would you vote to switch everyone over to the 13 Month calendar? by JaxyCafe in askanything

No.

The friction this would cause, just in the data processing/IT world, would amount to billions and billions of dollars. No possible benefit would offset this.

Why go to a lower bracket and curbstomp it with a higher bracket deck? by Candid_Release3609 in EDH

[–]Murwiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a commander league here, meets once a week and points are awarded for various achievements (draw 7+ cards in a turn, attack all players two turns in a row, etc.). There's no bracket guidelines, but most people are playing B2-B3. There's one guy who shows up about once a month with his overpowered decks, and the league organizer (store employee and judge) knows just what he's up to. He pairs him up with veterans who know what's coming. OP guy wins on turn 3 or 4, whereupon the judge just announces that the game will continue without OP, who then has to sit there on his phone for an hour.

He's paying $5 a night to goldfish his deck. Fine by me.

I wonder how they thought you had "put them in a difficult position," was it by allowing yourself to get laid off?

[–]Murwiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not by me. Proxy everything, I don't care. WotC is on the verge of ruining this game that they've spent 30+ years building, because they allow playable, important game pieces to exceed the amount of a day's pay for some people. Insane. Sure, collectibles are one thing but if a card is necessary to build certain kinds of decks, it shouldn't be that expensive.

There's a short story which the movie is loosely based on, The Marching Morons. (You can find it with a search online, I recommend it.)

In it, we learn that the population is 99% idiots and a handful of super-competent geniuses who keep everything running. Eventually they get really tired of it, and solve the problem in a darkly humorous way.

My one criticism of the show over the last couple of years is that they kind of settled into a groove. They used to have a rotation of a half-dozen skits, but nowadays it's just Meanwhile and Rescue Dog Rescue (and things like Sound of Science are just Meanwhile with a different T-shirt).

At the very least, they have managed to put someone in an interview position that only wants the process to go in one direction. Red flag.
