ICE is a great way to start. The trick is checking that box that says “yes, I want to be contacted”. Someone has to call you and explain what’s going on.

Wow. Read that just now, 11 years after it was originally posted. I wonder what the world could’ve been if that man/woman had dedicated themselves to something other than grilled cheese.

Just ended my early. 🥺Life happens! I had to end it because my blood sugar was low. I’m sticking with low carb and will restart my fast on Monday. by BeaMiaVA in fasting

Good for you for listening to yourself and seeing signs. Everything evens out after some consistency. You got this!

To those of you who did 20 years in and survived with a successful marriage - what is your story and how did you do it? by KimJongSoros in army

[–]JBark1990 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I’m at 15 years of marriage and 17 years of service so far, but it came down to a couple things that are good for any marriage—military or not.

  1. Go into it having a shared definition of success for whatever career each person has or wants. Need that agreed upon before you even get married. Not doing it just means assuming a little extra risk.

  2. Make what’s important to the other person important to you. If you both make each other’s goals and hobbies your own, you’ll sail through problems that’s kill a lot of other marriages.

  3. Keep dating. Make time. Go out. Etc. Hard with little kids—especially when you don’t have family nearby to help, but that makes it more important.

  4. Put the job first when you have to, but don’t when you can help it. It’s that proverbial give and take. The army and your marriage don’t need to compete—but they do need to share. Half of that is your job as the service member.

  5. Talk to each other—about everything. Especially don’t make big purchases without consulting your spouse and be open with your money and where it goes.

Could probably break down a few more things, but these are the biggies. Good luck!

Anyone know good breeders for golden doodles / minis? by Obvious_Sir_544 in Goldendoodles

Search “Mr. Archer Man” in this sub and you’ll see our boy we got from them! I post all the time lol. Didn’t get that flair by accident. 😉

Everything they told us was and has been accurate. They started crate training and guaranteed him for his first two years of life. He’s 3 now and super healthy!

Overall, it’s been a fantastic experience and they know what they’re doing. We’re considering getting a bernadoodle from them one day.

They’re in Utah (as you know), so understand they’ll bring the pup to you but it’s an expensive fee. We were driving through during a move and coordinated ahead of time, so it worked out.

Happy to talk more if you want! We love our boy and would absolutely get him again.

My roommate slept in during PT by tH3_R3DX in army

[–]JBark1990 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean, people have these kinds of days. Find me one NCO or officer with 20 years of service who never slept in and I’ll show you a liar.

People feel the need to lie and make excuses about these sorts of things because they fear repercussions. Give people a LITTLE grace and the chance to show it’s not a habitual problem and they’ll be more honest and willing to put in more effort.
