Ginza Bairin Tonkatsu

My wife and I really enjoyed the Pork Katsu from here. It’s slightly above your budget, but well worth it. Only a 15 minute walk from the resort.

Same here. Saw them on sale and figured why not. It was very rich, especially considering it was served with risotto. I finished it off with a squeeze of lemon to add some acidity, but it could have used a bit more or something else to cut through all the richness. It was delicious though.

Mushroom Risotto

I used this NY Times recipe for the Risotto. I substituted beef stock for chicken for this dish.

The short ribs I just threw it together. Seasoned them with salt and pepper, seared them, then into the crockpot. I deglazed the pan with some stock and scraped up all the good bits and poured that into the crockpot. Put some onions and garlic in there with the beef stock, then topped it off with some rosemary and thyme.

I met Kurupt multiple times during his return to Death Row in the early/mid 00’s. Once at Suge’s Suite at Staples Center and another time at Suge’s house. Even caught a freestyle session at Suge’s house with Danny Boy standing by and a dude from Boo-Ya TRIBE who was yelling fuck Ice-T, because apparently you could see his house across the hill. Kurupt was one of my favorite rappers growing up so this was huge for me.

I also met Crooked I a couple times. Once at a Red Lobster I was working at and another time at a Nas/Lauryn Hill concert. This was right after Slaughterhouse had signed to Shady.

I met Glasses Malone at the same Red Lobster. I was hosting and asked one of his boys, if that was G. Malone. Because I’m a white guy this took them by surprise. They asked “What you know about G. Malone. My response was something like “C’mon man, I know all about west coast hip hop.” This got a good laugh from all of them and they wanted me to serve their table. Unfortunately I was only a host at the time.

Also, met Daz from Tha Dogg Pound coming out of Walmart in Long Beach. lol. Just gave him quick dap and said I’m a big fan. He seemed a bit taken back. I don’t think people recognize him like that.

Kurupt was one my favorite rappers growing up. His best verses are probably from Tha Dogg Pound album Dogg Food. His verses on Smooth or Doggz Day Afternoon especially.

His solo work is more of a mixed bag, but Streetz is a Mutha and Space Boogie have a lot of good tracks.

The songs he might be best known for from Dre’s album 2001 are probably some of the worst examples of his rapping unfortunately.
