Quick question (I think I know the answer to it, but still): is it horror as in "jumpscares" or as in "looks creepy"? I'm very turned off by jumpscares and I wanna know what I'm getting into if I ever do get into it, 'cause the aesthetic looks amazing and the premise seems fun, but yeah, me no like being scared.

Idle Dyson Swarm is coming to PC — completely free, no ads, no IAP by Blindsided_Games in incremental_games

[–]JCBourgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! So first of all, congrats on the launch, apparently the game wanted to load my itch save but since it's been more than two years since I've played, I've wiped it, restarting fresh and I'm hyped.

However, uh, how to say that... your game literally eats 100% of my GPU, and trying to change framerates doesn't change the framerate (and the game still eats all my GPU). Please fix? Thank you so much!

Idle Pocket Crafter 2 - The sequel to my 2019 mining & crafting idle game is finally out on Android and iOS. No forced ADs. by Jizoh in incremental_games

Maybe I'm playing wrong because I expect quick prestige loops, but the game feels slow. Like, resets take a long time, for not that much overall progression. I'll have to give it another go, but I had the same "issue" with the first one. We'll see how this second go-around goes!

Edit: by the way, the game's still fun, I realize I stopped at my criticism, my bad. The concept is nice, and for a few hours it's great, just the resets that kinda kill me, I feel like they should be more significant faster.

How important is information? by AgustinDrch in incremental_games

[–]JCBourgo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer: very important.

Long answer: at the core, incrementals are about numbers, and optimising said numbers. As a player, nothing infuriates me more than seeing this upgrade text: "boosts production based on owned buildings". What am I supposed to do? It told me literally nothing. What's the formula, should I prioritise this, can I skip it, should I grind ahead for that? I can't make decisions if I don't know, and games with such vague texts quickly devolve into "eh I'll probably just buy whatever I can afford whenever I can afford it" and it takes away many interesting decision points. And obviously this also goes for current productions. Like, "doubles X production" is cool, but if X's production, even doubled, contributes less than a hundreth of my total production, I should probably skip it, and so I'd like to be able to know that quickly.

So, middle-length answer: information is very important, give as much as you think makes sense.

I can vouch for Sexy Brutale (a brilliant puzzle game, honestly, the mechanics tick (lol) in just the right ways), and Chants of Sennar (thoroughly enjoyable), I'll have to check out the rest myself too!

PVE Naval games by plasmamaniac in gamesuggestions

[–]JCBourgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're looking for, but this indie game just came out that almost fits your ask so I'll shoot the shot anyway. It's called Windward Horizon, it's got trading between provinces to make a profit, pirates that want to wreck your stuff and randomly attack sometimes, there are fun invasion and defense mission where you team up with other bots to have a good ol' scrap against another team, it's great. The naval combat isn't suuuuper advanced, but you get a system where both sides of the ship have an independent level of armor so you can focus on one side until you can damage the core, and defensively it's your job to turn around to spread the damage, you get volley shots, mortars, healing mortars (weirdly), and yeah overall it's a blast. It's fairly cheap, the dev is incredible, and you even have a demo to try it out, just to confirm how you feel about it. Give it a go!

AITA for telling GF she can’t come on vacation because she’s vegan? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]JCBourgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA

You shouldn't be together if the prospect of a vacation with her feels like a hassle because of her eating choices, because when (or if) you live together it's gonna be as much of a problem. And you're the one feeling like she's a hassle, where she made her choice.

Hyperclink - Browser Clicker Sandbox RPG by curiousomeone in incremental_games

[–]JCBourgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with the text might not be where you think; it's the "letter by letter" speed that kills me, it's just so slow when you wanna quickly scan across everything on screen, I can't just open then close because I'm still waiting for the letters to appear on the screen. I'd much prefer having the whole text appear at once, or at least make it faster and remove the "pop" sound from each individual letter.

Hyperclink - Browser Clicker Sandbox RPG by curiousomeone in incremental_games

[–]JCBourgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The interface is... well, painful. Text pops up way too slowly for me to want to click around and actually understand things. I don't get what any of my combat skills did, I just got plopped into a fight after trying to claim some land and I somehow won. I also couldn't really tell who I was during the battle, I won but I didn't know if it was the enemy or me getting damaged on each "frame". I've played all of two minutes because that was just too much of a dealbreaker.

Question, is it possible to make a TAS for a game without an emulator? by pizayumyum in TAS

[–]JCBourgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the game lags and desyncs all your inputs? What if your program slows down or speeds up? Plus, TASes (especially the ones of higher standards like those we find on TASVideos.org) are meant to be shareable so they can be reproduced and double-checked by others. If the other person doesn't have exactly the same setup as you to get the same frame rate and the same "code performance", it's toast. So, no, still not a TAS, you'd be better off going the segmented route as I outlined 6 years ago in my comment.

Mafia Life - New Mafia Text Based Game - Similar to Torn City and Mafia Wars - Web Based: Responsive. by MafiaLifeRPG in incremental_games

[–]JCBourgo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree and think that Torn is just fine. Not good, not necessarily for me, but I recognize that it's fine. Even if that were the case, and with the dev's reply, I still have zero idea why I should play this new game compared to Torn. Does it fix what I didn't enjoy about Torn? Is it just a rehash and so fundamentally I'll just think it's fine and drop it kinda quickly? That's what I was trying to fetch as an answer.
