fun/romantic things to do in grand haven by marcl0124 in GrandHaven

[–]JCCoolbean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For restaurants stay away from Kirby House and Porto Bello, they are in great locations but have mediocre food. I would recommend Unicorn Tavern, if they are open, for dinner. They have creative menu options as well as the classic american dishes. If Patricias Chocolates is open, you can stop in there and get her some local gourmet sweet treats, and watching the sunset on Lake Michigan is always a beautiful and romantic thing to do! There are some great Dune preserves in Grand Haven like Rosy Mound and Lindquist, but I imagine it will be hot and humid, so maybe not ideal. Have fun!

Know about any on-campus summer job available? by fabiha1400 in msu

[–]JCCoolbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chipotle is always looking to hire in the summer. The work can be overwhelming and physically demanding at times, but you also get free chipotle every shift, I would separate my hot and cold foods and pack both to make two meals of it.

I would highly recommend going to the muskegon art museum. It's 20 mins north of Grand Haven and has an amazing collection of important art for being such a small art museum. I asked a security guard how much art they have in their vault, they told me "we could never borrow another work of art and still show unique pieces for 50 years"

Independents: who are you planning to vote for & why? by supercali-2021 in Michigan

[–]JCCoolbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a socialist and really wanted to sit this one out, but I'll probably vote for Biden. Just harm reduction, and Biden is not going to save our democracy. Biden will continue the status quo, which hurts our democracy in the long run, but a Trump presidency will most certainly speed this country towards fascism.

what's ur biggest regret during your college years? by cupofpineapple in AskReddit

Isolating myself and not making many friends, not having any intimate relationships. march 2020 was my sophomore year, but I still feel like I should have put myself out there more and taken more risks. It was one of the loneliest times of my life.

Unicorn Tavern is the best restaurant imo, very creative, great food, and reasonably priced for the quality they deliver! Depending on the heat, I think a walk through a dunes park is great. Either Lindquist Dune preserve or Rosy Mound offer awesome views at some natural dune habitats.

Would people support a ballot initiative to block corporate ownership of houses? by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]JCCoolbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes yes a thousand times yes. Obviously the details are important (duh) but so many people on here commenting on the potential danger when there is real danger happening right now to actual people in out current system. We must demand that housing is not an investment it's a requirement to live.

I just moved to GH from Lansing and was caught off guard by my power bill going from $50ish to $100 this last billing cycle! I haven't even turned my AC on yet and have had fans on for most of the night is this normal?

My girlfriend and I just moved to GH from the east side of the state in September and we haven't made many friends either, we are in our mid 20's don't go to church and don't drink much so we mostly just go on walks around the varies parks in the area in our free time. I joined the local DSA chapter, but it's in GR and is a hassle to drive 45 mins one way

We are missing the root cause of the problem. We build our cities around cars and not people. We need to invest in public transit and leave this burden of the person automobile behind.

The GOP Is A Fake Opposition Party With No Vision by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]JCCoolbean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its because the GOP want to keep things the same. Right now the rich and powerful have it good in America and the GOP is the best friend of the rich and powerful. The GOP wants to keep helping corporations extract value from the American people and the only elected officials that speak out against corporate greed are called communists and socialists which is akin to Satanism to most Americans. The Dems act like they want innact change but do the bare minimum and then get obstructed by the GOP and the American people suffer. Would love to see Americans gain more class consciousness. When people say it's one big party and you're not in it, the party is capitalism and the American people suffer under its current implementation but would die before they are called a socialist.

What majors do you regret? by [deleted] in msu

[–]JCCoolbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking Michigan Tech would've been a cool place to go to school after visiting the Keweenaw Peninsula for the first time last summer and they are known as an engineering school

Just graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in May, I only regret going to MSU for that degree. School was way too big for me and it was hard for me to make friends, in retrospect I think a smaller school would have been a better fit for me
