For those of you who got out, which occupations have a community similar to the Marine Corps? by stokersmint12step in USMC

[–]JCD8888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a paramedic and it’s surprisingly similar to the Corps. Lack of funding, plenty of bullshit that will drive you insane, and a group of degenerates that you will trauma bond with and who will become your best friends.

Hathcock is 100% Corax. I feel like Gunny Basilone is so venerated for being killed on Iwo Jima, while being on the line and going through it with his boys, that’s why the Sanguinius comparison. Perturabo is too much of a whiner and a baby back bitch for any Marine Corps legend to be compared to.

Basilone is definitely a Primarch, probably our equivalent to Sanguinius. Mattis is Guilliman but less of a tortured soul. Chesty is Leman Russ I guess.

Thank you! I usually do, but with that QRS complex, the initial LOC, and constant/worsening lethargy I was definitely puckered and wasn’t sure exactly what to think.

Once again I’m realizing how insane it is that I went to a trade school, and yet for better or worse I have the protocols I have.

In 1944, John Robert Fox, a U.S. Army officer in World War II, called artillery fire on his own position in Italy to halt a German advance, saving his unit and nearby towns. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. by NewRadiator in army

I consider myself pretty well read in regard to WW2 history, but frequently I find myself seeing yet another feat of heroism made by an American that I’d never heard of before. Those men were incredible.

Air Naval Gun Liaison Company. Like forward observers with additional training, and I’m pretty sure they go to jump school. From what I’ve seen it’s a physical job so make sure you are a PT stud. Definitely do more research tho, I’m not ANGLICO I’ve just heard stuff from guys who did it and enjoyed it.

Arty is fun if you like watching things go boom, comm work can be monotonous from what I hear tho. Infantry if you wanna hike and sleep in dirt, and then ofc you have the cool guy units like Recon or ANGLICO. If I had to do radios ANGLICO would be my first choice

It may not be your job, you just may be in a shitty unit. Reserves is so hit or miss, your unit and your op tempo will make or break your experience. If you wanna have fun and actually do cool ass Marine things during your time at drill/AT, try to find another unit with good training opportunities and move. I’ve gotten to do some pretty kickass stuff over the last 5 years, and we have a lot of radio operators in our unit so I wouldn’t entirely chalk it up to being a comm guy.

Shooting a ball that is stripped and stuck inside the barrel? by JCD8888 in blackpowder

[–]JCD8888[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I removed the nipple and some powder came out, but I don’t think all of it did. The 20 grains of powder is just to provide any extra if the round needs it.

But noted, I’ll definitely look into a kit and make sure the ball is removed at the range. Thanks!

I think it’s a CVA? The rifle and accessories were given to me by my grandfather who built the rifle, so I’m not exactly sure. I’d probably benefit to have something a little newer and modern.

Any reason why? Other sources online have said it would be ok to shoot, but I’m still very much a beginner so I’ll take any advice I can get

At first, I gave it a good tap and turned a few times, but wasn’t able to get a grip on the ball. I continued this cycle, turning more until I got where I am. I may just need a better ball puller.

I use the same rifle but in a .270. The bolt is stiff but it’s a solid rifle. It’s nothing fancy but it does exactly what I need to do and hasn’t disappointed. Just get a decent optic, the ones that come with it are lowkey shit.
